TrueView Installer keeps initiating from Global Shop Solutions

We installed TrueView on our Server that runs Global Shop Soultions (GSS).  This is an accounting software that can link files, in this case DWG to thier respective part numbers within our accounting.  We run the program via VRM to each user.

ISSUE:

When intiating certin PRINT functions within GSS a pop up of the installer will pop up (see attached).  Experienced By All users, but different instances - can repeat for each user, but not on same machine.  Very Odd.

Contacted IT that runs server (friend of company) and he uninstalled and reinstalled.  Still did it.

Contacted and opened a Ticket with GSS.  There are aware of this issue and gave me a similar instance with another Autodesk Product, but resolution was to uninstall and reinstall - which we did and did not work.

Here is a comment from GSS being specific what is happening.

As far as we can tell, there are some shared components (.dll or .ocx) that the installer may write registry entries regarding, limiting permissions on those entries when installed. We don’t have a list of these as you can imaging once we start trying to pinpoint them we can go down a bit of a rabbit hole and never know how many are involved.

It seems as though when Global Shop goes to reference one of these components that AutoDesk has laid claim to it is trying to prompt you for the installation media again to attempt to remedy.

A temp fix is running as a Local Administrator has been the only “fix” that we have found for the issue - but is a security concern.

And another email comment:

There’s just little that we can do short of itemizing the entire list of .dlls and .ocxs that we utilize and providing it to AutoDesk in hopes that they make some change on their end. We have several customers who use both and don’t have issues. It is rather random and can work on one workstation and not another. In fact I just installed TrueView on my own desktop and was unable to duplicate any similar issue. Global Shop is working as expected.

This appears to be an issue caused by the AutoDesk installation and seen enough times that AutoDesk has its own knowledge base articles about it. I’m not sure what more we could do outside of troubleshooting AutoDesk’s installer software ourselves. I still think it’d be worth at least reaching out to them. They’d likely have some very specific processes they’d have you go through. I’m more than willing to work with you in any way that I can if we think there’s something that can be done on our end.

Any help by the community here would be great (or even an employee with actual knowledge of the issue).  GSS is willing to be in on this as well as it is affecting many customers.  RIght now I have to delete TV, and link to PDF's instead of DWG which is not the best scenario as I have to rememebr to create and upload a PDF to make sure its current.

Can you please open the "Event Viewer"->"Windows Logs"->"Application" and check there for warnings and/or errors, that depend on MsiInstaller.

If you share this information with me, I can check.

regards

I think I got the log correct.  See attached.  I have the event file but cannot attach here.

TrueView, nor any Autodesk product is meant to be run remotely from a server.  In fact, it is a license violation.  Since TrueView is technically a free product, however, you probably won't get too much slack from this.  Your best bet would be to set the users as Power User on the server so that it can complete the installation process for each individual user.  Or at least set them as Admin once on first launch then put them back.

Okay, to investigate I need the detailed error messages. You can export "selected items"to a .evtx file, that I can read.

Can you please select the items from 6/1/2016 10:29:22AM to 6/1/2016 11:23:56AM, right mouse click and export as an .evtx file.

Send this as private message to me.

I am contacting my IT Company who is running GSS in a Remote configuation.  From what I understand, there is 1 server and has GSS on it.  Then each users has a remote session.  I was under the impression that each TV was installed at the user level.  I will get to bottom of.  GSS is not running locally on a users machine.  GSS can connect to files externally, so for example a Part Number can have a DWG associated with it.  If someone wants to see that DWG they can click the link, and TV opens the DWG.  I do not want to run improperly and will get to bottom of and or uninstall.
