Knowing my Licensing usage

Hello,

I am looking for a tool that will monitor my FlexLM license server and will give me suggestions as to the amount of licenses my organization needs.

The issue is a little more complex than "Just" counting application usage since Autodesk licenses comes in bundles and covers more than one application.

Thanks in advance,

David.

You can create an option file and define a report and use SAM Report LT to view this or @JTBWorld has free/paid apps for this.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your answer,

I would like to ask you again before I set up your suggested solution. Will your solution let me know how many licenses are in use or it will let me know how many applications are in use?

Since Autodesk licenses come in bundles, and one license can cover few applications, there is a different between the two.

Thanks in advance,

David.

On the Autodesk tools, I believe it shows it both ways..  At the Suite or Collection level and then the product level.  @TravisNave is that correct?

For @JTBWorld I don't know..  Perhaps they can chime in on the matter.

Our JTB FlexReport product monitors the actual license usage.

As to monitor what specific product is being used within a bundle/collection or suite JTB Process Monitor is also needed.

If you want real-time monitoring beyond what the simple logging will do, then you will need a solution like the full JTB product or Process Meter from @Anonymous.

Thanks for the shout out @TravisNave!

@KurtzDavid, Cetrus Process Meter (CPM) pulls license status info (collections and applications) from the license server. This lets you see which applications/versions are driving your use.

CPM also tracks application use at the desktop, so you can see if applications are active or “parked”/idle, who is using them, and for how long.

See examples of reports here.

Hello all,

My "simple" request is to know my real license usage and not applications running.
If, for example, I know I have few AutoCAD running the license can come from the AutoCAD license poll or it can come from the Inventor package license poll.

I have check all the solutions and it looks as if all of them are dependent on the FLEXLM log file and since Autodesk does not publish in the log file the license source for each application pulled then it is impossible to know the license usage.

If someone know anything more on the issue, I will be happy to learn more on it.

Thanks all,

David.

Hello,

Good news, our product, SofTrack does not rely upon FLEXLM logs, instead it uses a unique technology to capture the license source (serial number) of each Autodesk network license consumed.  For instance, as you know, using the same Autodesk application at different times can result in the license being pulled from a different network license.  The important detail is the network license serial number.  Our product, SofTrack, records the serial number of each such usage so you can receive better usage reporting.  And, SofTrack is completely automatic, just install the workstation agent at each desktop/vdi/terminal server and it begins tracking from that time forward.  Click here for more details.
