I was asked to copy this here from a post I made on the FusionCAM forum...
I love the Setup Sheet capability in Fusion, but I also think it's lacking in several important ways. The real value (at least to me) in the Setup Sheet is to document HOW to fabricate the parts, so I don't have to remember. I make dozens of different parts, and I just can't remember how to do them all. But, while I can get what I want from the Setup Sheet capability, it is REALLY cumbersome to do so as it currently works.
What I want is a separate Setup Sheet for EACH setup in a given job. The "model view" should show the part oriented so it is clear where the origin is, and what the part orientation is, and, optionally, showing all the toolpaths for that setup. This part requires manually selecting the Setup, and all operations in that setup, plus orienting the model so the origin is visible, the Z axis is pointing up, etc.
Then, it's necessary to create a new directory for EACH setup, because each one writes an HTML file having the name of the part, and there is no option to change that name. Plus, each setup writes a number of PNG files to show the tools.
So, ideally, I end up with a directory structure like this:
Directory: PartName - .nc file goes here
Subdirectory: Setup1 - Setup Sheet for Setup 1
Subdirectory: Setup2 - Setup Sheet for Setup 2
...
Subdirectory: SetupN - Setup Sheet for Setup N
The result is great, but it is a LOT of work to create. I have to manually create the directory structure. For each setup I have to select the setup and all operations under it, orient the model as required for that setup, invoke the SetupSheet function, navigate to the proper directory, and finally create the Setup Sheet.
It would be soooooooo nice if this whole process could be automated, so it can be done in, basically, a single click. At a minimum, it would nice if the process could be scripted. I have no problem creating a simple script to define each Setup Sheet.
One other thing, likely a Windows wierdness, rather than a Fusion thing, but really annoying nonetheless: I write my nc files and Setup Sheets to a NAS. In the Setup Sheet Directory selection dialog, I can only write to the NAS if it is mapped to a drive letter. If I simply navigate to the NAS through it's corresponding network connection, that address is tossed, and the Setup Sheet gets written to the default directory under \Users\UserName\AppData...
