Turn Cutter Compensation outside of part

Turn Cutter Compensation outside of part

I would like to be able to turn cutter compensation on above the the part.  I often have the situation were my tool diameter is not much smaller than the slot or groove.  So I do not have the room to even turn Wear comp on inside the slot.  I was able to do it the MasterCAM.  Right now I have to manually edit the code, which takes longer than I'd like.  I am thinking it could be an option under the Linking tab where you specify the lead in and lead out.

What I want to do is:

  • Lead In - turn cutter comp on then move down in the Z
  • Lead Out - move up in Z and turn it off

Example program:

  • (Finish Inner)
    N232 G00 X0.025 Y-0.661
    N234 Z0.6
    N236 Z0.2
    N238 G01 Z0.05 F6.
    N242 G41 X0.0289 Y-0.636 D03
    N244 G03 X0. Y-0.608 I-0.0289 J0.
    N240 G01 Z-0.25
    N242 Y-0.6071
    N246 G02 Y0.6071 I0. J0.6071
    N248 Y-0.6071 I0. J-0.6071
    N248 G01 Y-0.608
    N249 Z0.05 F25.
    N250 G03 X-0.0289 Y-0.636 I0. J-0.0289
    N252 G01 G40 X-0.025 Y-0.661
    N254 G00 Z0.6

This is a HUGE issue for me as well. I have been fighting with cutter compensation on all of our FANUC controllers, and our MDSI controllers since I started using HSM. This is a hair-pulling problem when you are posting out to 11 different machines and they all throw up a CRC error which then requires me to rewrite the program. We are then forced to run full-sized tools with comp. turned off.  Please address this issue!!! I dont know what the competitors did, but I too never had this problem in other software.

Here is a screen shot from MasterCAM.  It was a check box option called Plunge after first move and retract after last move.

This can actually be solved in the post. I recommend posting this cutter comp requirement to the post forum or speaking with a reseller who can modify your post.

@cj.abraham Yes changing the post would be able to solve this problem.  But by changing this would it not change every tool path that uses cutting comp?  This would only be needed in a case by case situation per each tool path.  When I have the room I turn it on inside the feature but if there is no clearance then I have to turn it on outside (above) the feature.  Is there are way to add to the Compensation Type drop down "Wear Comp on Above Feature"?  This way when it posts it will do the desired moves per tool path.
