Split a mold on a curve plane

CC9AD533-8FEB-40C9-AA5E-692C76C07BA0.jpegSo Ive imported my STl in mesh and have started to build a mold for my stl. once I've built the mold and need to split it, I want to do that on a curve. the picture or screen has the surfboard in the middle of the mold, I would like to split the mold along the center plane of the surfboard. is this possible. I new to fusion but can't seem to get this simigly simple solution.

tThanks in advance,

Hi Hamid,

Looks good.
Odd, silhouette split is still not possible.

I don't find that odd. If you look at the draft analysis and follow that around the geometry you'll see where  the line starts getting "wiggly".

The loft looks nice, but the question is rather: is it manufacturable.
The silhouette split works fine for simpler geometries, but a much better way to design is to keep the method of manufacture front and center when modeling.

That means this object is a nice concept, defining the shape, but to model for manufacture you start by defining the split line.  Then define what draft you need for demolding and start modeling the upper and lower half.

That's a lesson I'll surly keep in mind, thanks for this insight 🙂

I went back and drew a line or spline and created a plane on the profile needed. I have messed something up because I can no longer extrude that plane in order to get the mold i need from the component. any advice on how I can extrude the center plane.

I finished creating the mold.  I hope it is what you are looking for.  Model is attached.

This slice plane will not work

splitting the plane this way works but does nothing for allowing you to split the curve plane on the horizontal plane.

I used the sketch feature to split the mold using the curve line on the sketch to achieve smoothness.

@foamworxsurf I would forget trying to work this out with mesh geometry in Fusion 360.

WOW thats sad that you would throw in the towel when the method can and has been done by other users and posted, I would think that a person with your status would offer a solution or assist to find one for the purpose of providing support in which this forum is for. I hope you offer solutions to others and not a quit offer. Really frustrated at your approach!

I meant it can't work because the shape is undercut.
How should the bottom half come out of the mold?

I am not throwing the towel. If you take the time to read through every post in this thread you will see that the proper workflow has already been proposed and you only have to connect the dots, and actually do the work. It isn't really that complicated either.

However, I simply doesn't involve converting a triangulated mesh into a solid by some means and then hack your way to a sub-standard solution.

@hamid.sh. has already done a lot of the work by re-creating the shape using lofts. If you read my comment in response to his post it should now be clear what to do.

Just because other users have hacked their way to some form of a solution does not mean I  will do the same.
