How to chamfer part of a line/edge

Hi,

I feel like I am running around trying to accomplish something that must be quite simple: I have a line and I would like to chamfer part of it.

In the attached screenshot, I have highlighted the 4 places (each time, a 4mm line) when I would lke to "chamfer" to create a notch so that I can deposit my electric toothbrush head.

As you can see, I have even tried to add fake/construction lines so that I could select the part of line to chamfer, but it doesn't work. I tried to play with the split tool, but failed to properly understand how it works, apparently.

In my model you will see that the last step if to add .5mm filet on almost every edge (I feel I'm missing one, but can't find which one... 57 edges seems odd), si I guess I need to chamfer the section of line BEFORE I do the filet.

You can download my model here.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You can't Chamfer a Sketch line.  Hide the Sketch and Chamfer the edges of the body.

Edit:  I Just re-read where you want just the 4mm part chamfered. There are multiple ways to do it but you can Split the body using the sketch, then Chamfer the edges you want.

You can do it using sweep. It's not as simple as using chamfer, but it's a workaround.

Hey there @twitos

I made a screencast for you to illustrate how to use the Split Body command to accomplish the required chamfer

Hope this helps you accomplish the chamfer you were after, feel free to contact me should you need further help!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do a screen cam.

I don't know if you guys can see the progress I've made since my OP using the original link to my project..?

I am not familiar with the "patch" feature (but I'll look into it thanks to your video), but I tried to make 2 offset planes, then split the body with those planes and do the chamfer.

After struggling to select all the right (but not the wrong) edges to do a fillet all around, I got the idea to merge all bodies after doing the chamfer, and things look not so bad.

Thank yo all for your help.

Final result:

I want to create a simple chamfer on a single side. I have a 3D object which is .75" x 18" x 36". When I use the chamfer tool on the object I select the front face and it make me select an angle AND length, I don't care about the length I want a simple chamfer, not sure why all these videos start with complex shapes. I am trying to transition from Sketchup to Fusion360. I have tried adding a 45 degree line on the front face of the 3D object, and then extrude, I was able to do this once but cannot recreate my steps.

I have attached screenshots of what I am starting with (the side of a cabinet) and what I need to obtain (the bottom of the cabinet with a simple single 45 degree chamfer

Thanks in advance.
