Fusion Form using a defined object outline

 So I am trying to make a form to make a body for my school project of a quadcopter. I have created the form roughly how I would like it but the edges are only done roughly by moving the edges of a plane to kind of mimic the outline (first image). The second image is is what I would like the form to follow. Is there a way I can outline the body of the second image to use as a base for my form? Thanks.

Yep, I think so, pretty easily!

  • Model the fan cylinders (like you've done)
  • Model the central "web" area (like you've done)

Here are the new parts:

  • Create form / enter into Sculpt
  • Click Create --> Extrude
  • Click on webbing area, and now you have your matching shape form!  Play with the settings, and you've got it.  You can use Edit Form to manipulate it as desired.

Thanks for the reply. That worked excellent and I used the fill hole option to fill in the roof, but I don't think there will be an option for this but when I do the extrusion, can I make the edges between the ducts rounded and smoothed off like the original design I wanted, and also make the roof symmetrical pieces? Is there a way for this? I know I can do bevel edge but whenever I do that or move the planes around too far I always constantly get errors when I try and finish the form.

Thanks

Just adding to my previous reply, I have attached an image with the type of design I am going for. Notice how it all looks very smooth and aerodynamic and is also following the outline of the frame design. I have found a match option in fusion but it gives me the error "Invalid input edges".

Remember, Fusion's T-Splines affect profiles/edges only a certain number of edges away from the change.   You can have the form-fitting part flow into an organic part by adding in complexity.

Here are some notes:

  • Create the extrusion up, it will have sharp edges
  • Notice that Fusion will apply "creased edges" to the places in the extrusion where there is a sharp crease.  You will want to keep that crease at the bottom, and "lose" the crease higher up.
  • Double click on top edge, right click and "insert edge"...move that edge down closer to the bottom.  You can later adjust those edges by double clicking on them, and selecting "slide edge"
  • Do that a couple of times.
  • Click Modify --> UnCrease and select the sides you want to be smooth.  Depending on how many subdivisions you made, that transition will be sudden, or more smooth

Now you have a form fitting bottom, and the ability to make the top whatever you desire:
