Fusion 360 - Wrap sketch around cylinder and extrude

Hi !

I facing problem with cylinders nad cutting shapes.

As text, and simple object can be cutted from cylinder, more complicated shapes not.

I`m not native english so its hard to subscribe.

My plan is to get cylinder (with some thickness),

sketch shape (for example some flames or flowers) to be around 360degrees of this cylinder.

Then cut/extrude selected shapes around all cylinder.

Pipe feature its not i`m looking for, because i got complicated shapes to cut (like flames).

Any tip or advice will be apprieciated.

Maciej

maybe nothing.

i thought to wrap a pipe around an imported curved line. Maybe not?

just looking for solutions.

Should we continue discussion in this thread? if so, i'll post my entire question here.

Or discuss in that other thread i linked?

Or maybe i should start a new thread?

thx

How can this be done in fusion 360? you have linked solidworks tutorials?

You could probably get away with doing several cuts around the object using the offset from surface tool, similar to SolidWorks wrap feature except the cuts or extrusions will head in the direction of the plane rather than the surface which would make it difficult to use cuts to get a consistent depth the whole way round. However if you are looking to extrude no problem. First create your cylinder, draw the shapes to be extruded, extrude them further than they need to be extruded and then look from the top and do an extruded cut of a circle, concentric to the cylinder at the distant desired and you should get hopefully what you wanted.

@spajda.pl,

At this time we do not have this ability. I responded to another thread that you are on letting you know that it is in our backlog.

Cheers,

Wow, Really?  Solid Works will do this easy!!

So where's the answer?

I don't see no tools in Fusion 360 to do a wrapl!!

Thanks, that answered my question 😉

One way to accomplish wraps  is hidden in plain sight in the posts above.

So how do you wrap?  All you have pointed to are pictures that tell nothing about how to!

You can do this in sheet metal.

1) Create an arc of 359 degr (circle with very small opening)

2) Create sheet metal flange from the arc.

3) Add a short straight extrude to on of the sides of the open cilinder (you need a straight bit for unfolding)

4) Unfold the part.

5) Create a sketch and extrude on the part

6) Refold the part

7) Remove the straight extrude.

8) Add an extrude to close the cilinder

I know that in SolidWorks i can do it very fast. That why i use both apps to make complete part. I hope i will use F360 at 100% 🙂

Hi,

@sotm   It is true that sketches in Fusion cannot be wrapped around a cylinder. This does not bother me if I can wrap the extrusion of this sketch around this.

In addition to the various tips, @rogierweekers  gave excellent instructions for this process.

Your answer makes NO sense NOR does it add any value to this thread.

@sotm I did not point you to pictures. I asked you to read the earlier posts in this thread and maybe follow the links pointed to in this thread. One of my own posts points to this https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/for-everyone-that-wants-a-wrap-function-in...

That is the 1st thread where wrapping in Fusion 360 is explained in depth with screencasts.

Before making further posts it would suit you well do do a little homework!

I’ll say it again a lot of nice pictures in the beginning of the thread all with no explanations of how. All also on cylinders and nothing tapered like a cone.

Are you sure you are able follow simple instructions ?

The link I provided in the  the post you responded to, includes instructions including screencasts on how to wrap stuff around cylindrical objects.

I might add that a cone is not a cylinder. But a cone can also be created with the sheet metal tools (you'll have to search for the threads) so in fact this can be done with a cone as well.

The two screencast below I found in 5 seconds of googling "Fusion 360 wrap". Feeling a little lazy today ?

Is there any update on how to do this?  I want to wrap my sketch around a cylinder and extrude it.  I could do this in SW, but can't find any info on how to do it in Fusion 360 except for this blog.
