I need to drill a hole in a separate component aligned with the existing hole in another component. I am attaching a file.

I could not assume that the holes in the backplate were on a pattern so I created each hole in the spinner cone individually.  This guarantees alignment.  I am returning your model but remember it is an F3Z file since you have linked components.  Be very careful where you upload it so as not to mess up your original models.  I would recommend a separate folder.

I found that I left out a step in the conical spinner.  I forgot to remove all the holes bodies, after creation, with the base component.  Update model is attached.

Hi John and thanks. I have reviewed you video but I still have to work my way through it to understand what you are doing. I do not have Edit in Place capability. My holes were done using the circular patterning tool. I am still learning the file system within Fusion but I know that trying to download your f3Z automatically takes me to the Download folder on my MacBook and not within the Fusion environment. How do I download it into the Fusion environment?

You are obviously using a Fusion 360 Personal License if you say you do not have the ability to Edit in Place.  Since this is the case you probably should not be using External Files in your assembly because Edit in Place is surely to come up again.  In the NEW video I explain how to Break the Link to the External file bringing it into the main assembly.  I also went through the complete process again of creating the holes.

Edit: When I create the offset surface in the existing hole, if you want to add extra diameter, to make clearance holes, add it to the offset value instead of what I used of zero.

I have saved my assembly out and since I broke the link to the External file, it is an F3D file which can be opened directly in Fusion 360.  Model is attached.  I am on the latest Fusion 360 version so if it will not open for you, you need to update your Fusion 360 application.

Whilst you didn’t know this, it is normal for those holes to be clearance and countersunk.

I would do one hole to completion  (for the lug on the Origin, vertical sketch and Revolve Cut) and then pattern it.

or

@sharscott2 download a countersink machine screw from McMaster, Joint it, and combine Cut .

Might help....

Why is such a simple model, so far out of alignment?

I imported the screw as suggested, but nothing lined up, so had to Revolve cut anyway.

Revolve sketch on a midplane from the screw head - sheesh.

MIght help....
