I created this project to test Autodesk Flow Studio in a real production pipeline.
As a strong advocate for ethical AI, I believe technology should empower artists, not replace them.
Tools like Flow Studio democratize motion capture, giving small studios and independent creators access to workflows that were once only available to large productions.
For this test, I wanted to create my own stylized version of Green Lantern as part of an animated series pitch.
My goal was to achieve the look of a hand-drawn 2D animation while building everything entirely in 3D. The final result is exactly the direction I was aiming for, and I'm incredibly happy with how it turned out.
To achieve that hand-painted aesthetic, there was only one option: everything had to be painted by hand.
That's where Mudbox fit perfectly into the pipeline. Every visible brushstroke on the character was intentionally crafted by me to reinforce the stylized comic-book look.
Once the rig was complete, the fun really began!
I exported the character directly to Autodesk Flow Studio using the Maya add-on with just a single click.
After uploading a reference video, it felt like magic, in only a few more clicks, I had a complete motion capture performance, without expensive suits or specialized mocap stages.
I'm truly excited about the final result, and I can easily imagine many more artists incorporating this technology into their own creative workflows. It's a powerful example of how AI can expand creative possibilities while keeping artists firmly in control.
