Autodesk Hints and Hacks: Create an Autodesk Account

The first thing to know is that you DO NOT have to hold a subscription to any Autodesk program or service to have a personal Autodesk Account.

Access to setting up an account is available on any Autodesk page at the top right-hand side. It is FREE and only takes a min.

- Select "Sign In"

- Select CREATE ACCOUNT Under the login section.

**Fill in the required information, and you are ready to go!

I found that most of my past colleagues and contacts only had access to Autodesk through the programs or services made available to them on their office devices. If they did utilize any online Forums or Discussions, they were never logged in and perused anonymously.

An Autodesk account is more than a subscription manager. It provides you with the ability to connect with like-minded individuals. A place to gain and share knowledge while retaining that history within an environment focused on bringing people together, including access to a vast repository of information and knowledge.

There are multiple acknowledgments available for Account holders, which are available for you.

An account will also allow you to follow forums and threads. Share knowledge and solve problems. Find others with similar interests and grow your community.

Great Tip @kristina.youngblut . I have a totally separate account that I use for all my forums, blogs, AU registration, groups etc etc. as I can take with me if I ever have to maybe do a career switch. Also, it is nice to have my own space from work, so I do not have to represent them all the time in my thoughts and opinions.

Note on Post: I will avoid using the "Hints and Hacks" tagline moving forward as it appears to be a brand that our CADMama @donnia.tabor-hanson has worked to create.

I enjoyed the sound of it when used by Donnia in the past and thought it would be fun to piggyback on. I recently found her post on Revit Hints & Hacks: Stairs and Railings which she outlines why she uses this term.

I will say that when I started using it I had researched it and could not find that anywhere that anyone had used that so I felt like it was something I could brand my work with. Thank you for noticing that and thank you for the acknowledgement of my use of it. That is kind of you, as I have grown to expect from you.

I have recently been asked to increase my presence in the Autodesk community and your post was literally the first one that came in. The most intriguing point is that of keeping multiple accounts. One for forum and collaboration, one for licensing. I spoke with my buddy @toddrogers-wpm about this as I too have multiple accounts and want to start this presence in the best way possible.

My theory was because Autodesk licensing has changed to a named user model and not a license server, and he was able to keep his historical community activity, there must be a way to connect an existing user profile into a company. I also expect that a user would be able to keep their historical activity if they change companies. It looks like these are both true and I've decided to start fresh with content that is more relevant to today's software using this account.

I appreciate the sentiment of having a platform to speak outside of the company, but also feel that the benefits I bring my company because of community involvement are part of my "brand" and in turn add value to me as talent.

The Companies I have worked for preferred not to connect to personal accounts for management reasons. I allow them to participate in promoting and commenting if they choose.

I the past, and in past companies, my talents were viewed as "trade secrets". I'm grateful for the experiences at those companies and the encouragement to share my knowledge now.

Great article, @kristina.youngblut. I also have separate accounts for work and personal. Incognito browser tabs work great for accessing the separate accounts. That means I have to copy web addresses between the browsers at times (BIM 360/ACC Docs), but it’s worth it to keep the content where I want it.

I recently spoke with a colleague that lost access to his historical data because it was associated to a previous work email address. Very frustrating, but an opportunity to grow his brand again as @DanielLench_ mentioned.
