multiple mitered end section

what's a good way to handle multiple mitered end sections? at one point i used to be able to drag pipes within a structure and still have it be attached for a dual pipe headwall or mitered end section but for some reason i can't do that anymore. is it a change c3d has made or is my drawing corrupt?

@nostupidquestions ,

I think I understand what you are writing about, but would you mind posting a file for me to look at (I might be able to isolate the corruption if it is present). I wonder what your definition of a multi mitered end section is? I don't think there were any major changes to the pipe networks, but what version of Civil 3D, is this regarding?

thanks for the reply. i think i should have said multiple pipe mitered end section. it's a mitered end section with multiple parallel pipes (see attached). not to long ago i could attach a pipe to a structure and then drag the pipe away from the connection point. the pipe would still be connected to the structure it just wasn't at the connection point. this worked pretty well but now it doesn't work. i can't drag the pipe away from the connection point. i have a new computer and a fresh install of c3d2019 with all the updates. i have worked around the problem but it would be nice if it worked the old way. i can't attach the file as it's way too big.

@nostupidquestions ,

I understand what you are saying now. Thank you for the example photo. I tried to recreate this and with the below results:

  • I can attach two pipes to one structure (they come in attached in a "stacked" formation by default), and also drag the pipe ends around demonstrating (at least in plan view) Side-by-Side pipes.
  • As soon as I move the structure, the pipes "reconnect" to their specific "connection ports" that for custom structures are set in the Infrastructure Parts Editor. (They revert back to the "stacked" formation)

To this point, while in, the out of the box behavior, it is not presently available using the factory parts catalog. This might be a great opportunity to suggest a "structure" that is readily anticipating multiple pipes in a side by side configuration in the Civil Ideas Page, or to be created using the Infrastructure Parts Editor to create a custom structure to add to the catalog and in turn the workflow.

This is also a great opportunity for you to tell us how you are working around a known limitation of the default catalog structure configuration? While this may be some form of customization and unsupported, it could be valuable to others trying to accomplish the same thing.

so here's what i've come up with. i can drag a pipe within a structure, i just can't snap to any point within the structure without the pipe reconnecting to the connection point. i guess that's what always has happened, i just never snapped to a place within a structure. my multiple pipe mitered end section has snap points for each pipe but the pipe connection overrides the snap. so i stand corrected. sorry for dragging you into this. it would be nice to be able to override the connection with a snap somehow.

@nostupidquestions ,

No worries, I am happy to help and when you have a question as such as this, there are probably many more people that are looking for the same answer, but don't speak up to do so. I might add, that creating custom parts in Infrastructure Parts Editor can be a very valuable skill set to offer this very kind of functionality to parts that might be useful.
