Importing Google Earth Image into Civil 3D Plan profile

Hello,

I would like to import a google earth background image for my plan production. I am using Civil 3D 2014. there is a method of importing KML through the toolbox but my miscellaneous utilities in the toolbox/Tool space lacks the option for Importing a KML. Any ideas how i can import a google earth image, will be helpful.

Thank you

In Google Earth, File, Save, Save Image.

In AutoCAD, Attach.

There will be no world file, so you will need to rubbersheet the image manually or use AutoCAD Raster Design rubbersheet or imatch function, if you have that software. It's part of Infrastructure Design Suite Premium or Ultimate and AEC Industry Collection.

If you were thinking Google Earth image and surface, like you might have seen in the past, that was only available in Civil 3D 2012.

Dear Friend,

We can directly import google image from google earth to Civil 3d in the version 2012 as mentioned above. But for that you need to set the coordinates of your region in to civil 3D.

Or you can attach the google image to your drawing and move it to the correct location in your plan and re-scale and rotate it using reference points in your plan.

Also I think you can use Auto Desk infraworks 360 to do this as well.

Thanks.

You may be interested in below screencast, in Civil 3D 2016 onwards you can insert the map in file directly.

It's likely coming in properly, but the results are watermarked to prevent usability.  You can sign up with Google and provide credit card information ($$$) to obtain an API Key.

However, if you do some research, you will likely find similar or perhaps better quality images provided at no charge by the government agency covering your area of interest.

Dotsoft has a great tool in their offering that accesses various high resolution image Tile servers to quickly download into Civil 3D.

I use these to create exhibits in Civil 3D….

…Export them using Autodesk Raster to quickly create geolocated images with World files, and import into various H&H modeling software as Background images.. well worth the entry price

Thanks for the mention, the add-on also has an Image > World Make tool to create world files from a selection set of images properly positioned (by any method) inside a drawing, should eliminate the need for ARD in this one case.
