I'm going to ask a stupid question, is this related to the operating system? I am on fully updated Windows 10 and I get the error. Is anyone on Windows 11 getting this error?

Thanks for bringing this up. I just in the last day have migrated to a new laptop. The old laptop was running windows 10 with the error.  So far on the new laptop with Windows 11 I've updated customizations and 3rd party apps and have not had the error occur so you may be correct that it is operating system specific.

Thank you. I'm sorry you get the error, but I'm glad I didn't have to update to 11 just to find out.

But you were getting the error on a machine that was 10, but with a fresh install of 11 and 2025 you don't?

hmmmm... curiouser and curiouser.

Update: the error appears in both AutoCAD 2025 and civil3d 2025. It also seems to happen to the first 25+/- lines in the ddlmodes. Right clicking after the first 25*/- that appear on the list seems to work. If you scroll down the list it continues to happen to the first 25 layers that appear in ddlmodes and not to the rest of the list (aka the bottom halfe of the list on my screen) This occurs on both computers in our office. The computers are not idetical both use navida brand graphics cards.

More info on Arithmetic error: I was able to find the trigger for the error and why some people do not get the error in the office! LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! If the ddlmodes pop up appear above the location of you monitor that you main Cad screen is on it causes the error. If it is horizontal or below the cad screen the error does not happen. SEE Attached photo! (red area get error, and green area does not.) Location of screen is based on DISPLAY SETTINGS!

Please let me know if this helps. (As a test I dragged the ddlmodes to the actual AutoCAD screen and tested it)

This is really strange.  I use 3 screens. 1) is the laptop screen, 2) monitor, 3) monitor).  My civil 3d drawing window is on screen 2 (monitor).  I usually keep the layer manager window on monitor 3.  I get the error when "Layer Manager window" is on either monitor 2 or 3.  I DO NOT get the error and it works perfectly when Layer Manager is sitting on screen 1 (laptop).

That seems to be it for me. I can get it to work consistently now as long as I keep the layer prop. manager on the same screen that CAD is open. Strangely I was having no issues with this until today even while using the layer prop manager in a screen above CAD. I haven't updated anything since last week. Has anyone come up with what triggers this error?

I have a similar screen setup at home and it only worked when the layer manager was on the laptop screen (screen 1)

note: The physical location of the screen is not the issue. It is where the screen is located in "display settings". See my left screen in photo attached. (it matches the physical locations of my monitors)

I was trouble shooting more.  My set up is 1) laptop display, 2) monitor, 3) monitor.

display 1 is set as "Main Display".  Right Click on Layer Manager only works when the window is on Display 1 (laptop as main display).  It does not work on 2 or 3.

When I change the "make main display" to 2 or 3, right click on Layer Manager works on all displays.  It's a strange bug, but I can proceed with layer manager sitting on Display 1

I am using AutoCAD 2025 and experiencing the exact same issue. Everything was fine in AutoCAD 2024. I upgraded and immediately after every time I right-click in the layers manager I get the same thing.

See post above where I show the windows screen settings. Having the ddlmodes layer pop up on a windows setting  screen location above your autocad location will cause this problem. I have moved my pop up location to be beside or under and it works.

Hi,

>> I wonder if this is related to the fact that Civil 3D 2025

No, same happens on one of our systems with Vanilla AutoCAD (incl. update 2025.0.1), on Windows 10.

Worked well already and started from one minute to the other (No Windows update was active in the meantime).

Create new profile, reset settings, uninstall & reinstall (incl. cleaning files and registry content), importing the profile from another system, turning hw-acceleration off, changed GFXDX12 to 0, ...all that did not help yet.

@mgallina this looks interesting, I'll update my info as soon as I get in contact with the employee who has this issue, and yes, he also arranged the displays in different elevations.

We have not changed the graphic card driver yet, because it was already working well on that system.

Hi again,

well, verified, and the workaround to:

  • work with AutoCAD on the lower display ... or
  • arrange the displays (inside Windows) so all are vertical on one plane

..works well.

Thank you @mgallina  for identifying this!

Same issue but with AutoCAD 2025 vanilla.

Did AutoDesk ever come back with a solution?

May need to go back to the relative robustness of 2024 until a fix is released

Hi all,

Thank you all for your feedback and for reporting the recent AutoCAD 2025 issue. This issue has been logged with the AutoCAD Product Development team and a potential fix is under consideration for a future update.

In the meantime, you might consider these temporary workarounds:

  • Resetting your AutoCAD 2025 to its default settings.
  • Using AutoCAD 2024 as an alternative.

If you have any further questions or experience any additional issues, please don't hesitate to reply to this message. If you'd like to request an update on this issue, please reference reference ID ACD-43296.
