Submittals - Review Process

Submittals - Review Process

The submittal review process need to allow for multiple reviewers to post a response. We have engineers and consultants that will respond with their answer on a single submittal and then the architect will have the final approval. The way the process is set up now is confusing and makes this reviewing process difficult. Having the comments section is not formal enough. Customizable workflows would make this available to those who wanted to utilize multiple reviewers, and let those who don't keep it the way it is.

We are currently testing the platform, and intend to roll this out over our Organisation within 6 months -we have found the comment tool disappointing and ineffective, due to these only being visible in the parent folder. For this reason we are currently advising users on pilot projects to limit any comments to use of the mark-up tool, this seems a step back from the more flexible approach on our current CDE platform, and has proven a common complaint. Would be keen to hear your experiences on use of the Comments v Mark-up tools, happy to share our own experiences and findings in developing workflows to reflect our procedures if these are of interest to you.

Thank you for the response. Happy to see that the ability to reopen a closed package was implemented. We have begun to use the comment tool and it definitely complicates the way we work. Because we are assigning the architect as reviewer to reserve the official response for them, it doesn't tell the engineer of consultant that it is in their court to respond. We have begun to comment and "@" the engineer/consultant but it is confusing and hard to look at the log and see who's court each submittal is in. I am looking forward to any updates about the new workflow.

It would also be helpful for a "custom" review disposition.  Some design professionals will not mark a submittal "Approved" for a variety of reasons.  Therefore, it would be helpful to be able to use submittal dispositions such as "No Exceptions Taken", "Make Corrections As Noted", "Revise as Noted and Resubmit", etc.

I have just started to do more submittals and facing this issue of multiple reviewers. It will be great if this update come out soon and make the process much easier. This also brings into mind the ability to create a revisions for a submittal that has already been approved. The option to reopen a closed submittal is great but it will be much easier if we could also create a revision irrespective of the official response. How it is now is that only for revise and resubmit, rejected and few other option it  auto generates a revision option. If something changes in the project later and the sub contractor needs to submit a revision to his already approved submittal this option will be helpful.

a critical item for us to be able to submit to a multi step review workflow. As it stands we will have to revert to using 'reviews' or going back to plain outlook email which is far from ideal. please update asap.

Any update on this issue?

We have been waiting nearly 2 years for this fundamental aspect of a CDE. A project might have approx 500 submittals. This is a real deal breaker for us. If there is no plans to develop, Please add an integration to BIM360 or acquire an application (like Pype) which will allow flexibility like multi step workflows, specifics on notifications, turnaround times, optional reviewers etc. compare with other leading CDE's.
