Dell monitor (NVIDIA driver) 2017LT incomatibility

Anyone else having this issue?

Running Windows 7 on a Dell Precision1700 with a dual monitor set-up. I can not even install 2017LT on the machine with the Dell P2825Q monitor driver on it. If I remove the driver, I can download 2017LT, but as soon as I reinstall the driver, the machine crashes.

Is there a known conflict with this monitor and 2017LT?

I am not techy, but our IT contractor worked on it for 6 hours and couldn't get it sorted. Dell says they aren't aware of a problem. If I can prove an incompatibility issue, maybe they'll send me a different monitor.

Are you talking about a specific driver for the monitor only?
Do you need it, can your Video card not run without it?

Thanks Dean. That is diverging a bit from my technical understanding, but I believe our IT person said the video card works fine with other monitors, but as soon as the driver is isntalled for this specific monitor, everything goes wonky.

I'm looking for whether others have this problem because I am trying to get Dell to send me a different monitor. Otherwise I am out the cost of this monitor, plus the cost of a new monitor that works better with ACad.

I am with Dean on this one.  You shouldn't need to install a monitor driver in the modern age.  Just install your certified video card driver and let Windows manage the monitors.

I'm not one to step on IT toes since they know your systems and setups way better that me, but IMHO unless there is something exceptionally unique and overly special about that monitor I would skip it all.

You and your IT need to decide which is important to your clients if this came up as a topic at a client meeting: the monitor driver getting installed or using AutoCAD to get billable work done.

happy cadding.

Hello elindamood, and welcome to the Forums!

Let's make it an even three, as I agree with both Dean and Travis that you shouldn't need a "driver" for your monitor.

Here is a link to the Dell website regarding multiple monitors in Windows 7:

How to Setup Multiple Monitors in Windows 7

It never mentions drivers for the setup process that I could find.

If you are still having difficulties, please post back.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I have worked with my IT person again and his conclusion is that the condition is "unexplainable".

He did say that he was suspecting the video card driver, and that it wasn't a monitor driver per se that he was messing with. He tried a new video card as well, to no avail.

His only remaining theory is that Windows is messed up. We will completely wipe the machine and start over one of these days when I am not of the office. I'll let you all know the results.

Thanks again,

Elden

I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that it is never good when IT says the problem is  "unexplainable".

It is certainly odd that a monitor driver (.inf file) could affect the OS/programs, and not just output. I have been in this business for over 20 years and this is the first time I have seen this issue.

Please post back when you know what the fix is!

Hi Elden;

Has you IT guy gotten this worked out or gotten the system re-imaged yet?

I am really curious what will fix this weirdness.

No. I haven't had a chance to wipe it all clean yet. Hopefully soon. I be
sure to follow up with a post on whether it works or not.

Hi Elden;

I just wanted to let you know that I am leaving Autodesk today and will no longer be monitoring this thread.

It sounds like the re-image of the OS will get the situation taken care of, but if there are issues going forward you can contact either john.vellek or emmsleys and, of course, all the people in the Community for more assistance!

Good luck!

I have marked Dean's and Travis's posts as the Accepted Solutions so Community members can see the basic answer is that the drivers files are typically not needed in newer Operating Systems, even though your solution was different.
