XREFNOTIFY - Old School Popup Wanted Only

Good day.

I have tried finding how to get the Old School Way for XREF Notify to work vs the New Annoying Popup at the bottom of the screen that pops up every time you plot. I turned it off last year, but with 2026 for some reason I do not get the Old School Popup anymore. If I turn on XREFNOTIFY, I get the Plot notification to pop as well as the XREF notification that I do not want. I am brain dead trying to find the solution, so I am reaching out for someone to bail me out of this.

Pasted below is how I'd like to see the Popup be, with nothing popping at the bottom right screen.

Options dialog box > System Tab > "Hidden Messages Settings" under General Options area.

I had 2025 and then 2026 AutoCAD. But in December before I got an update my XREF popped up.

Now it no longer pops up but I have to have Notify and then Plotter pops up all the time.

Thank you: in a quick test both in 2025 and 2026 I see the pop-up in your screenshot appear when I open a DWG file that has missing XREFs (a setting never controlled by XREFNOTIFY variable)

Dumb question: are you expecting that pop-up to appear any other time? You dislike the balloon option which only appears when, while already inside a DWG file, an XREF has been edited and saved, aka has changes (BUT not missing since you should already know if it is missing or not).

If you type "@", a dialog will pop up listing the users who have responded. Select one and a hyperlink will appear in the post and the user will be notified that you have responded.

You are talking about TWO different things, right? One (XREF) dialog at time you open a file

and another one (bubble) for each plot, about plot process (plot and publish details).

Correct?

1. Your missing-Xref dialog - In Options/System/ Hidden messages

(perhaps, Acad restart required after this change)

2. Tray bubbles - You can disable "all" tray bubbles by turning off TRAYNOTIFY [F1]

Yes. Maybe not that one pop up. But I remember if I change an XREF, save and close it, my drawing would pop up a dialog box like that one saying an XREF needed to be updated. Now the only one that does pop up is the one at the bottom. But if that is turned on the plotter pops up as well.

The dialog from your initial post is deactivated, see #3 or my more detailed hint above.

After re-activating this dialog and if you open a dwg with missing xrefs, this window will pop up.

Or do we all miss your question?

I picked that option and I don't see any difference. Still no XREF notification is popping up.

What option? Did you found the hidden message about External References and turned it on?

Followed by Acad restart as suggest and it is still missing?

hmm, I can toggle without a problem.

I am out of ideas, other than this one.

Yes. I'm not needing the pop up for the Missing XREFs. I want the pop up in the middle of the screen that says an XREF has been updated do you want to reload.

I may have thrown off the need by must pasted image. I searched for one and even Mr. @pendean  questioned that pasted image. The image was for missing XREFs.

But I want the one back that popped up that said A XREF has been UPDATED, want to Reload?

There has not been one of those in many versions now, and the reason I asked you how far back ago you upgraded from.

Perhaps in 2025 you have a 3rd party add-on that is now missing in 2026.

@cadffm shows you how to get back this lower-right corner balloon pop-up again.

I never had such popup in the middle. The dialog from your first post is for missing/unreadable files.

Popups about changed reference files, I know as ballon at the lower right corner only.

Like pendeans screenshot above.
