Shift key will not toggle ortho mode - tried all solutions

Hi,

Autocad 2025

It's the common problem - my shift key won't toggle ortho mode

I have searched and tried all solutions on this forum:

*Options (>user preferences) settings are fine

*TEMPOVERRIDES is fine

*PICKADD is fine

*Temporary Override Keys on CUI is as it should

*I have checked my keyboard, the key works and deselect by shift key is working just fine.

I prefer not to reinstall the software just for that - so I'm looking for other solutions.

thanks!

I'm having the same issue, and I uninstalled the widows update and the issue went away, but somehow the update was forced on my DELL laptop two nights ago and now I can't use the shift key again. I tied to uninstall the update again but the shift key is not working.

Perhaps there is another Windows update after the KB5083769 update that re-introduces the issue.

Do so at your own rick, but try uninstalling other Windows updates after April 14.

It's working again today. Has anyone else found this to be fixed?

Also , pressing both shift keys will act not as a toggle while pressed, but a one time press working while the command is active ( line, pline). Deactivating it while the command is active can be done by pressing Left Ctrl. Strange.

Also, i uninstalled the Windows update after the KB5083769 and it does not work for me. Shift still not working.

This problem just started for me this very morning. My laptop is managed by my organization and is on Windows 11. According to my system updates, the last update I had was in February of this year. Uninstalling this update may work for some, but it's technically not the cause of the OP's problem which dates back to 2024. Since I didn't have any issues Friday afternoon, and I don't have this 4/15 update, it can't be what's caused the issue for me today. It's quite strange.

For posterity's sake, I am using a wireless ProtoArc keyboard that sometimes acts up when it needs recharged. I have it plugged in and charging now, but the problem persists. I have checked all the settings in the original post list as well, and made sure my Shift key works otherwise.

This works for me, but now how to I get my hand back on the mouse to click where I need my polyline to go? LOL

Nope, never mind. It's not working again. It was working for a day but now it's not working again.

Thanks so much for that link! I could only get it to work by changing the Windows keyboard filter settings option. My ACAD gave me a hard time and would not let me edit the temporary override keys. Either way, I'm back in business. What's confusing, though, is why this happened for me at all since my Windows has not updated.

You can hit both Shift keys and then let one of them up. AutoCAD just need the second Shift to activate the override. Or you can hold down the F8 key. When it's held down it acts as a Temporary Override instead of a Toggle

You might try going to Lenovo's support site and see if they have a driver for the keyboard. That might reset whatever a Windows update did. This problem seems to be very specific to certain laptops.

Ok, i have a solution , but you must have a Logitech mouse with alot of buttons. I use a Logitech G502. So in the Logitech application you can set up a mouse button ( i use the big button at the right side of the mouse that is used as DPI Shift), i set it up as a multi key press and selected both shift key pressed. It works for me.

I have a Logitech ergo m575 mouse, but can not put the mouse button for both shift keys. I did make one of them toggle the F8 key and thats a decent work around.

Thank you! I didn't think there was actually a way. Plus changing my keyboard accessibility options has not disabled my backspace from working when I hold it down to delete large portions of text. Oh well.

Thank you so much for doing the legwork necessary to bring the actual solution to light, I and many others appreciate it.
So glad there's people like you on this site who,
unlike some people who insult others and post links telling them to open a futile case with the AutoCAD support team,
actually want to help other users. 😊
