Grips - Move - Copy

Hi All,

I'm sure i just need educated...

If i select an object, pick one of the grips, tap the space bar once to go to the "move" option and then hold down the ctrl key to make copies of the object...

Well, i get copies but they seem to be snapping to some invisible polar grid. In fact, if i then put aligned dimensions on, i get two dims alternating at 45 degree intervals.

Can i turn this behavior off and just place copies at random locations?

Sal

Hi Sal,

Just release Ctrl key after you create first copy of object and continue to create copies without invisible grid.

Thanks Maxim,

That really was easy. But now i have to know, what was defining the "invisible grid"? I'm guessing here but suspect some system variables? If so, i may be able to use this to my advantage.

It is standard AutoCAD behavior: when you are using grips "move" option with Ctrl key - AutoCAD switches to "copy" mode and the graphics cursor snaps to an offset point based on the last two points you selected.
Similarly, you can place multiple copies at angular intervals around a base grip with a rotation snap. The rotation snap is defined as the angle between an object and the next copy when you are using Rotate grip mode. Hold down Ctrl to use the rotation snap.
