I'm using AutoCAD 2019. In paper space, I inserted an image that will have text and objects in front of it. When I select the image and change the draw order to be in the back, it works, but as soon as I change tabs, it goes back to being in the front. I've never had this problems in previous versions. Any ideas on why this is happening?

I hope this has been fixed for the new release 2021, half our office is still on 2018 for this exact reason.
I was surprised to read in a earlier post someone having draw order problems with 2018
Only issue we have is editing poly-lines / hatches with vertices
OR, maybe AutoDesk could just fix the Draworder command so that it actually works - all the time. Actually - as a graphical program AutoCAD is unsophisticated. We are losing money and plot time is usually a time-stressed event. Diddling around with weird program behavior in a stressful time is - well - it sucks a lot.
The lack of AutoDesk response simply shows they don't care enough to solve the issue for their clients. We should be able to group any selection set of layers into one of at least 3 groups of plot order. If it took even 3 times as long to plot - but plotted with the correct transparency and draw order - that would be a win. I think AutoDesk needs to step up and make this problem go completely away - once and for all.
I know when you have 30 sheets and you have to go back and fix the draw order it's a headache
This is crazy... we have to publish our sheets from our old 2018 installs. 2021 completely ignores the Draw Order you set. Trying to find and fix every object you used Draw Order on and fix it is almost impossible. Hatches you pushed in back of XREFs plot on top of them. Blocks with hatches have to be recreated in the correct order. This needs to be fixed ...
If you are really willing to deal with the problem, then I would like to help.
But this requires your cooperation in the form of answering my questions, maybe 1-2 tests.
Do you want that? Let's go:
What is your product name and product version,
please upload a screenshot of the dialog, command: ABOUT. Thank you.
Please share an original file from 2018 (or another one if it isn't possible) and explain where
have to go to see the problem.

I have contacted Autodesk, other CAD Managers, and our Reseller, and they all say there is no fix for 2021 yet. They have pulled development resources from Civil 3D and Core group to come up with one... If you are still on 2020 they have finished a Hot Fix for it but you have to ask for it. Hopefully 2021 fix will be soon. I have workarounds and I know how to redo dwgs or blocks with the correct creation order so that ignoring of draw order is tolerable for a short time. But there is not amount if information i can give you that would allow you to actually help with a fix. Unless you can write a lisp that re - creates blocks or dwgs creation order based on the drawing order settings.
Also, some of the Draw orders issues were fixed with current Updates and Service packs. The current issue is when a reference template defines a block in you dwg (which you cannot stop if it is in a style that it is providing) then it ignores the draw order. And then there is the wipeouts in structures plotting black... which led me to replacing them with screen0 hatches, which led to finding out that ref templates ignore draw order when defining a block in the destination. So if you are fixing your wipeout issue in your pipe structures, you just have to delete the line work and put it on top of the screen0 hatch. Or of you are still using CTB, apparently the wipeouts are using color 7, so you can set that to screen0 and not use it for anything else.
Although it is far better to contact Autodesk and provide them with enough information to have them replicate the issue and send it to development. Posting issues to these forums does help a little. Ranting relieves stress, and if users see that other users have the same issue then they know it is not their machine, and may open a ticket.
Hi,
"But there is not amount if information i can give you that would allow you to actually help with a fix."
For me, the first step is to see the issue
and for this goal the information in shape of answer to my questions would be enough.
"Unless you can write a lisp that re - creates blocks or dwgs creation order based on the drawing order settings."
Can and done, but only for my personal use (not 100% bullet proof).
"Also, some of the Draw orders issues were fixed with current Updates and Service packs."
Okay..
"The current issue is when a reference template defines a block in you dwg"
Stop. About which program you talking?
Here is the AutoCAD board, but this sentence sounds you are talking about a toolset like C3D!?

i appreciate your willingness to help, however, it seems like the AutoCAD part of this has been fixed. And the only issue remaining are in Civil 3D 2021.1
What.. You seem to have issues. not only are you acknowledging my acknowledging that the Autocad Core issue have now been fixed with the latest update, you are wining that i mentioned them in the first place. Then you say i should not mention a Civil 3D issue even if i am acknowledging that the question would go in a different forum, but at the same time you sign all your post with something about Revit... that does not belong in this forum. Chill out.
@btillett wrote:What.. You seem to have issues.
Why do kids these days make it personal? Oh, I know. Because they can't stand being wrong.
@btillett wrote:Then you say i should not mention a Civil 3D issue.
Did I say that? No. I said it belongs elsewhere.
@btillett wrote:Chill out.
Okay, whatever.
Thank you for calling me a kid, I have not been called that in almost half of a century. But i do believe these forum posts should be answers to relevant questions, not quips directed at frustrated users. I do hope you got your rating up by answering real questions, and not just the number of rhetorical posts you make.
Wrong again, kiddo. Maybe when you grow up you won't take things so personally.
