Draw Order in 2019 Not Working

jserrato25YGE

I'm using AutoCAD 2019. In paper space, I inserted an image that will have text and objects in front of it. When I select the image and change the draw order to be in the back, it works, but as soon as I change tabs, it goes back to being in the front. I've never had this problems in previous versions. Any ideas on why this is happening?

How many people feel that if AutoDesk actually fixed the draw order command, that it would save them hours amounting in the 100's per year?  And also, that you would rather have AutoDesk fix problems like this, that have been around for a long, long time, than for AutoDesk programmers to spend time working on "New Features"?

Well, I have installed at least 2 updates that were supposed to fix this issue - alas and yet it remains.  Anything else?

Hi,

>> I have installed at least 2 updates

Can you please start command _ABOUT and show us a screenshot from that dialog?

When you try the draworder functionality, have you tried it in new drawings too?

Hi Alfred,

The issue seems to have been resolved by some of the updates since I posted that comment.

Thanks.

So.  What I really think is that you should be able to assign the order of specific layers in the Layer Dialog.  And, you should have - let's say 10 levels of visibility control.  So you can actually control the order in which layers display.  When I have an Xref drawing - at least for me - many times I NEVER want it to plot over the top of my current drawing layers.  If I reload it or move it - still - I never want it to plot over any other layers.  Why is this so tough?

Has this issue been resolved? It has NOT been fixed for all drawings. We have multiple users who have ALL of the updates installed and this is still an issue with some drawings. With some drawings, it seems to happen when plotting/publishing and some its only when publishing. Some drawings are even affected when closing/reopening the drawing. Most of the issues are with the hatching.

We have purged and audited the drawings. Some variables mentioned in other forums were checked (TREEDEPTH = 3020, DRAWORDERCTL = 3, WHIPTHREAD = 1). We tried publishing in both the foreground and background.

All machines have the following info in ABOUT:

Product Version: 13.0.1175.0 Civil 3D 2019.2 Update

Built on: P.162.0.0 AutoCAD 2019.1.2

                22.0.022.16 Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D 2019.0.1 Update

                8.1.48.0 AutoCAD Architecture 2019

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You forgot SORTENTS

And: If you talk about a file depend problem, why do you not upload a problem in kind of a dwg?

Perfect is a dwg with just 2-5 objects and you explaining what is wrong and not changeable (or still a problem after reopening).

We are experiencing the same issues. I have the same updates as @Anonymous and have used the same settings. Attached is one of our files. I have tried the draworder update, and when I open the file it's back to showing on top. I have used the treedepth = 0 and it all works fine, till I open the file and the images are back on top. I also tried to detach and re-attach an image but no luck, this would be a pain anyways as there are many drawings and many images and each image has image clips that would have to be re-done too.

This failure is a huge time waster - you can't rely on what you see in the paperspace viewport - you will only know after you plot and see.  The most reliable thing I have found is to move the block or xref some distance,  then make a new instance from a copy and put it back into position, run the display order and then try to replot - see what you get.  That is the most successful approach I have found.

This "feature" in Autocad is vital to publishing - there should be several, reliable ways to set display orders in a drawing file - by Xref, By Layer, etc. By today's state of the art publishing - this is remedial.  AutoDesk is way, way behind the curve.

Hi @jbernal ,

images are very special and you need the high quality graphic feature.

Q: Is your HQGEOM turn on and you have trouble? Please set it to ON and try it again.

I am having the same issue but I am using

Civil 3D 2018.3 Update

AutoCAD 2018.1.2 Update

AutoCAD Map 3D 2018.0.1

Arcitecture 2018

Yesterday I switched profiles and then switched back and it resolved the issue but today that doesn't even work.

Making a copy, erasing the original and putting the copy back in place seems to be a reliable work-around. Set the display order after you copy (usually it is a “background entity or xref that I am dealing with). Totally annoying and seriously time wasting - wish they would just fix it.

I've had to do that twice in the same drawing between editing sessions, to do it every time I open a drawing would be impractical (especially with more complicated drawings).

I've recently started running Civil 3D 2019.3.1 (AutoCAD 2019.1.2 and Map 3D 2019.0.1) which is having this problem, will likely go back to 2018 and hope I don't have the same problems as Minion Bob.

The hotlink is no longer available and I am still battling this issue. I've changed DRAWORDERCTL to 0-3. Setting at 2, this will temporarily fix allowing me to plot my project. I'll move things above another object and switch tabs, and come back and it will have reverted back. But particularly, images seem to jump the worst to the front. I need a forever fix. Any other suggestions?

The hotfix is included to the newest update, you don't need this.

Update your program to 2019.1.2, thats all.

Images are a special thing, what you can test: Graphicsconfig HA ON or OFF, try both.

Perhaps  the graphic card/driver/setting  is a problem in this case.

Variables: Use the default values, [F1] says 127 and 3.

Underlays an Images in DWGs.. only if there is no other way.

There is no alltime solution.

This has been a problem since the beginning of Draworder.

No one has a perfect solution, I am using C3D2020 and every time your drawing gets bigger the worse the problem. Esp for model space views in paperspace. Guess it needs to be on everyone's wish list.
