Cross-Platform Licensing

I just purchased AutoCAD LT 2016 and Revit LT 2016 as part of a suite, and I'd like to install and register AutoCAD LT 2016 for Mac on my MacBook for when I'm away from the office...

I read that cross-platform licensing is permitted after 2013, but I'm not sure how to install and activate the software on my MacBook...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can absolutely do this.

If you need to download the Mac version, you can do it from the virtual agent if necessary.

I would recommend that you try downloading your product using the virtual assistant by following the directions here:

Note that there is NO Mac version fo REVIT LT: it's a Windows-only program.

But you can run WIndows on a MAC as you know, there are half a dozen options to do that as you know of course. Which them begs the question why not run AutOCAD?LT that way too. Both programs side-by-side.

It sounds like running Windows on a Mac comes with costs in speed and functionality, not to mention the monetary costs to purchase Windows and Parallels software...

If cross-platform licensing is allowed (which it sounds like it is) I'd much rather go that route.

Triple yargh!

I just spoke to an AutoDesk reseller that said I could not register/activate AutoCAD LT 2016 on my Mac with the AutoCAD LT permanent license I purchased as part of the AutoCAD LT/Revit LT 2016 suite.

If that's true, this really stinks! I made sure when purchasing the suite that it included a full, licensed version of AutoCAD LT, so that cross-platform licensing could apply.

Is this right (correct or morally proper)?

It's doubly frustrating because now AutoDesk has stopped selling permanent licenses of AutoCAD LT for PC or Mac. The tough part about subscriptions is that if ever one can't afford the monthly payment, they not only lose the ability to create new drawings, but they also lose access to their archived files.

I think I see the problem.  When you purchase a Suite license its a single "Suite" license, not 1 AutoCAD LT + 1 Revit LT + 1 [whatever].  If you run multiple products (of the same version) at the same time, it only pulls that one single license.  In order to cross-grade you'd need a specific AutoCAD LT license.

For what its worth, with all the other Windows dependant software included in the Suite I'd just bootcamp the hardware and be done with it.
