Diagnostic shader surface evaluation

Hi there,   I have an idea for the Diagnostic shader surface evaluation tool: instead of setting the drafting angles new for each project, or stage,it would be helpful to install customizable presets of various diagnostic shaders, where I can save settings such as drafting angle, drafting vector and so on. Added Direct Modeling History

recording the movements of edited CVs (Direct Modeling) in a surface with history.   Suppose I have Skin surface with Proportional Crown driven from two curves for each edge. Would be nice to be able to direct model the crown CVs without loosing the history that keeps the Skin Srf attached to the curves. Alias could keep the one history as it is now, but then apply a parallel history for edited CVs afterwards. Is not going to be heavy cus would just be a set of vectors for each CVs moved.   In the example above would be useful because even if the curves are tangent to other curves that drive another Skin Surface, it is not for sure that the Crown CV will be in tangency too.. with the edited CV recorded movements, I could modify that CV and still be able to keep alive the history of the Skin tool that allows me to control the overall Crown and so on.    An option could then be set to restore the default position of every CVs getting rid of the movements applied to the CVs.   This workflow was used in solidThinking and I found it to be a very useful tool that allows to keep History alive even when Direct Modeling without complicating too much the things or making a too heavy history.     Thanks Show More

Edit-Duplicate- Mirror and Offset

Opening the source folder of the reference file from reference manager

Hello Everyone ,   It will be good if we are able to open the source folder of the reference file from the reference manager by right clicking the file. Current problem - Since we load the referece files from different folders, over a period of time it will be difficult to remember them.Especially it will be very tough when you are dealing with  complete interior package of a car.   Best Regards, Siddhardha     Show More

Replace the modeling reference source

Alias used to have the modeling source displayed in conversation window (square, rail....) but it's gone in new version.   Just wondering we can have it back, and even make it changeable? Improvement for Tranform CV proportional modification

Can we select bounch of CVs in stead of only one to drive the proportional modification?   It means the selected CVs will transform together and not be modified by proportional modification And outside the selected CVs, we can still have the influence falloff to U and V like before. Show More

distributed render control

Alias had a distributed render control back in the SGI-IRIX times. It went away with MS Windows coming. With the enhancement of area lights it would make powertracer usefull again. Area lights give pretty good lighting, but they very often cause render crashes.   Not having to switch software for some little pictures would be great! Show More

handle trim regions like in surface fillet tool

I would like to have the trim tool not to go after the uv-position of the "keep-mark". This leads to switch the kept surface area when the intersection cos crosses the trim marks. See movie...   Id like the trim tool to behave like the blue spheres...   Regards   Show More

Construction Options

Improve the use of History

I`d love if you stressed more on improving History. It's so powerful and the biggest advantage to competitor Icem Surf. Unfortunately there is very limited use, it`s full of bugs.   e.g. Blend tool -It makes the hulls explode when explicit control is ON. -It cannot keep the edges aligned when I change the main surfaces.   Rail Surface -the curve segment option is inaccurate. -rail surfaces switch direction suddenly Show More

Surface Control Window should open automatically

An interface option that automatically opens the Surface Control windows immediately after a surface was created. Currently I have to use Query Edit ANYTIME after creating a surface. Which is annoying since Center Selection doesn`t exist for Query Edit.  Show More

interactivity (plane and vector)

Hello,   I would love to have the chance to create a plane/vector from lines which can change while I rotate/move the generating lines. Right now you can do it drawing 2 lines (so you can control the angle), making a surface rail and creating a plane attached to the surface.   Sometimes you need to adjust the plane angle and i have to remake them all the time instead of having an interactive change. Same thing for the vector: you can have it interactive only if liked with a surface, not with a line.   Many thanks,   Show More

Zero Transforms for Translation, Rotation and Scale independantly

Have an option within the Zero Transforms tool to just zero some of the transform elements. For instance, zero the position, but not the rotation or the scale. Show More

Ambient Occlusion for Ground Shadows

Currently, the environment ground plane is excluded from the ambient occlusion calcualtion. You can create a pllane under your model to create accurate shadows, but then you lose features like ground reflections in your screen grabs.   When computing AO, there could be chackbox that says "Include Ground Plane" which would create acurate shadows for rendering.   Alterantively, a "ground plane shader type" could be included so that you can have multiple ground planes with pre-rendered shadows in the scene (for differnt models or product configurations within a stage). Change Profile-Tool options after surface creation

Hallo,   Often when I start the profile-tool, half way through the process I notice "Surface-Normal may be better"; Or afterwards I notice I need an other guide-curve than the first selected, etc. ... And than I have to restart the tool all from the beginning, because the Construction-History of the tool could not handle such changes.   I think it could be useful to also change options after surfaces are created. i.e. -Add / remove curves from profiles and rail -Add / remove guide-curves and surfaces -Changes in the profile-orientation   Kind regarts, David Show More

Trim Tool Change Cursor for Movement

Within the Trim Tool when I already selected parts of a surface to "Keep" for example and I realize that I picked the wrong surface, I can currently move the crosshair. Unfortunately in some cases I miss the crosshair and set a new one instead of moving the already existing one which will subsequently double the work I have to do. So, can you maybe implement some kind of indication (change cursor/ little symbol ...) which shows me that I am in the crosshair`s range to move it instead of setting a new one? Show More
