Create by template questions

When using the "create by template" and "create by template, multiple" options from the tool palette, I've realized that only the multiple option creates an editing box around the copied connection. 

Things I would like to know:

1) why does this happen? is it supposed to?

2) if i can fix it and make it create an edition box, how could I?

Also, in certain instances, 

i try to copy a connection and it won't accept the "multiple" choice, but it's fine if i use the singular one?

Select any part of the connection and right click the select joint properties and the box will appear.

Or click all visible which is OK but if you have other objects turned off they will all be visible again.
