Advance Steel custom commands-share your ideas

Hello,

It will be nice to learn more about custom commands / combination of Autocad and Advance Steel commands improving productivity.

To colleagues willing to share-Thank you.

Here is a tiny example:

"Hide parts with identical numbers"-used when parts are detailed using drawings styles.

^C^C_AstM5equalpartsMarkSame \;AstM4CommSelectMarkedObjects ;_AstM4SwitchReprMode off

And another one:

"Hide Similar Advance Steel Objects":

^C^C_SelectSimilar \;_AstM4SwitchReprMode off

If it is made of steel, I can model it and detail it.

A further variation on Isolate Assembly to include any bolts or anchors attached to the assembly.

Isolate Assembly and all connection means (Clears Marking) (Select Object First)
_^C^C_AstM4CommUnmarkObjects;_AstM4SwitchReprMode MAINSTRUCTURE graphscr;redraw;_AstM4CommSelectMarkedObjects ;_AstM4CommMarkConnMeans graphscr;redraw;_AstM4CommSelectMarkedObjects ; _AstM10ViewSelObjects;;_AstM4CommUnmarkObjects;;;graphscr;redraw;

Can't seem to work out the variation where you can initiate the command before selecting the object though, so it's just a Select object first version I'm afraid.

Thank you for sharing.

Can you think about a command "Bring all AS dimensions to front"  - right click on dimensions+select similar+bring to front, maybe, couldn't make it work, being crazy busy.

And another one: "Hide detailed parts"

As Requested, works with any object type, also icon attached (icon suits the dark theme though so looks horrible in the right click menu I'm afraid).

Bring Similar Objects To Front
^C^C_SelectSimilar;^p_ai_draworder _Front ^P

Don't even know where to start with "Hide detailed parts" I'm afraid. It would be a very useful command though!

often discussed and many ideas to this issue. It's not possible with stock commands of Advance Steel and AutoCAD.
I think maybe by using the API commands, but not with stock commands

Yes, they are stored in:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2019\R23.0\enu\Support\Actions

Just copy folder to another comp and the commands will be available.

PS take a look at post 108 on page 6 of this thread. I attached a file with my shortcuts...

Yes, below the full command for bringing specifically all AS Dims to the front

Bring All AS Dims to Front
^C^C_AstM4SelectObjectByName ASTXdimline,astxdimarc,astxdimdia;^p_ai_draworder _Front ^P

Sorry, I'd missed that post somehow.

That looks very useful!

I've added the "Manage" tab to my AS Ribbon. Can't wait to have a mess about with it!

I small tip, used for just about anything that needs to be handy to be inserted in a dwg.

Convert text, shape, or make a custom hatch, or dynamic block in a template dwg, convert to block (except hatch), right click on it, and drag it to ACAD palette. Ready to be used, a huge time saver for me:

All these tips will save me a lot of time, very excited, thank you so much everyone.

Sometimes I feel like I haven't time to get into learning things to make me better but I have been advised to learn at least 1 hour a day and it is paying off.

Weird, but true-I thought when I switch to self-employed, I would have more time to customize etc.

It is the complete opposite.

Thank you, everyone, for contributing here.

Call it a custom command or whatever you like but here's what I would like.

Allow decimal feet on Level Symbols. Also allow Level Symbols placed in the model to always face the view direction.

Example:

Xref loaded of Civil DWG to use for sidewalk elevation reference. Elevation points shown in decimal feet. Typ for Civil drawings.

leveldecfeet.JPG

Would be nice if I could read the Level Symbols in this view 🙂

leveldecfeet2.JPG

...and fix the kiss export issues.

@markhubrich

Mark,

You have the Decimal level symbols now, in MT, filter Level, and Dwgs-labeling, General-modify the units.
