Automate the "description" field values in ACC Docs when uploading documents to streamline user workflow.

Automate the "description" field values in ACC Docs when uploading documents to streamline user workflow.

Upon document upload, automate the generation of a brief description based on file content or metadata.

Users can quickly identify uploaded documents without manual input through filtering metadata by using the Attributes from the Search Function, saving time and effort.

Example: My Native Revit Sheet is named "FRA01_ENER_XX_01_SP_AR_0001-GroundFloorElectrical"

when uploading to ACC Docs using Enforced Naming Convention, the Sheet should be split according to the enforced Attributes FRA01, ENER, XX, 01, SP, AR, 0001, however the "GroundFloorElectrical" is automatically eliminated from appearing in the Description Attribute and then needs to be manually added to the Description.

In use cases where we have hundreds of plans, manually adding ACC descriptions to all of these plans is very resource consuming.

Using the search function provided by ACC is also not ideal, as if I would like to identify all floor plans containing the string "Floor", there would be no results pinged back, unless this value is written in the Description field.

The benefit of automating such function is to reduce manual data entry and to improve document organisation.

Implementing this feature would significantly enhance user experience with ACC Docs.

Please can we add this, thank you

Yes yes yes, the countless HOURS we waste manually doing this, when Revit knows the Sheet Name but won't talk to ACC - this is basic stuff!

We also need the Revision field to be recognised too of course, such as in this example made using the PDF Export feature in Revit.

Is it my imagination or did we not have this feature in BIM360? I seem to remember uploading to there and it could search for a sheet area and pick up the text data? Either way we definitely need it for ACC, I was surprised I couldn't do it!

One might as well ask for dealing with dwg layer descriptions within apps other than AutoCAD.

I've searched in BIM360 API and haven't found any reference to automate description field, it seems that we can only automate custom attributes.

We need this feature ASAP, having to edit description field for every file submitted is a complete waste of time.

There is workaround for this.

1. Abandon Description and create new attribute "Title".

2. Add the "Title" into Naming standard as accompanying attribute.

3. When uploading a file named as FRA01_ENER_XX_01_SP_AR_0001-GroundFloorElectrical where red text fitting mandatory naming convention, the blue text will be automatically filled in the "Title".

The disadvantage is that Title cannot be shown in Reviews and is not transferred while bridging the projects.

So I vote for the proposal anyway.

@postrovsky I'll give this a go!

@postrovsky just trying this.

What is don't understand is this 'the blue text will be automatically filled in the "Title".

As I've found the blue text disappears. Are you defining any mapping or condition that makes the remaining text enter the 'title' attribute anywhere?

@derek_o sorry, I misguided you. The attribute can only be populated if included in the "Naming convention", not the "Related attributes". Still you can include Title in the naming convention and then crop it by moving into a separate folder with another shorter naming standard. However, this approach doesn't seem to be feasible.2024-10-14 14_59_06-Files - Autodesk Docs.png

I'm totally support this proposal. It's necessary that "Description" field can be used as part of Name Convention. Also i agree that attribute revision is needed.

Or another solution:  "Transmittal" und "Review" views must have a possibility to be customized. So that all custom attributes can be added to a transmittal or review view
