Transfer Projects feature now available in the new A360

The Transfer Projects feature is useful if you want to consolidate projects from several hubs into a single hub or if you recently signed up for a Team Hub and you would like to transfer projects from your personal hub into the new team hub.

In the Project listing page under the context menu for each project you should see an option to Transfer the project.

Here are some rules that govern how the Transfer Projects feature works:

  • Feature ‘Transfer Projects’ helps A360 Admins to transfer projects across various A360 hubs.
  • Only Admins of the A360 Hubs will be able to transfer projects across hubs. In case Of A360 Free hubs, hub owner will be able to transfer projects.
  • The user who is initiating the project transfer should be an Admin of the Source hub and should be a Member(Admin/Team Member) of the Destination hub
  • Projects can be transferred from A360 Free to A360 Team and from A360 Team to A360 Team hubs only. Project transfer doesn't support transfer from A360 Team to A360 Free hubs.
  • User should be part of multiple hubs, for the Transfer Projects option to show up. If the User owns or administers a single hub, then the option wont be available.
  • Once Project Transfer is initiated and is successful, all content in the selected project will be transferred into a Secret project of the same name in the destination hub. All members of the selected project will be invited as Project Contributors, unless they are already Team members of the destination hub.
  • Once Project is moved, all the project content will be deleted from the Source hub and the project will be available only in the Destination hub
  • While adding project members into the destination hub, always the role of the users in the destination hub is taken into consideration.
  • Currently ‘Transfer Projects’ option is disabled for C4R Enabled hubs

I have no idea what Autodesk is trying to achieve here - I consider myself a fairly intelligent and technically intuitive person, however the Autodesk "360" cloud is the most confusing and frustrating concept I've ever tried to navigate through.

At first, I was like "On cool, A360 Desktop - now I can sync my files and work on drawings from the cloud (ie: at the office, and then open the same file when I get home". That sort of worked, and then there was the "New" A360, which came on a trial even though I'm already subscribed to Building Design Suite Premium. Then there's "myhub.autodesk360"..., and then the included "subscription" storage, that when you click on it all it does is take you to the Autodesk main homepage. And now comes Autodesk Desktop Manage, and I'm sitting here like wtf? I'm better off just saving the file and uploading it to Box or a zip drive daily because every time I try to commit to learning "360", I just waste countless hours and get pissed off.

I'm not looking for a response, this is more of just a vent so bare with me. But if you want some honest feedback, I'd recommend:

  • Stop putting "360" at the end of every **** program when they have absolutely no cross compatability or features in common (ie: on my phone and iPad I've got AutoCad 360, A360, BIM 360 (don't even get me started on that thing); then you've got A360 drive, A360 hub, AutoCad 360 Web, and on and on....
  • Keep. It. Simple.  If I click on anything themed "360", then I'd expect to be taken to the same "folder/storage/drive" everytime. And have it be somewhat navigable.

The professions that use these products are difficult enough - just read through the gamut you wrote below for this post. I need to focus on my building, and not how many "free hubs to team hubs" we have or "secret projects".

Hi, just purchased a A360 Team subscription and trying to transfer existing projects over to the Team Hub.

In my free Hub all projects have my name as the owner but when I sort by owned by me only 2 projects display which I have successfully transferred over.

I am definately the owner of the other projects, any idea what they won't let me transfer them?

Hi Mark, sorry for the trouble here.

  • The only reason that i can think of that would prohibit the transferring of your projects to the other hub would be if they've had Collaboration for Revit initiated on them, so please let us know that.
  • If that is not the case then i'm not quite sure, however, i'll forward this on to another colleague to look into for you so stay tuned.

Let me know on the first point please.

Thanks,

No I have not used that package yet.

Could it be because one of my hubs is a fusion hub?

hi Mark,

I don't think that should matter, but either way, we'll wait to hear back from my colleague Swathi Vadlamani on this, so stay tuned.

She's in India so might not be til later this evening depending on where you are.

Thanks,

Mark,

I belive you are seeing an issue with Project Transfer because you own two A360 Free hubs. Need some confirmation from you, before we go ahead and delete the unused A360 free hub. I have sent a seperate email with the details. Please take time to look at it and keep me posted.

Thanks,

Can I get some clarification on C4R projects within a Team Hub.

I don't see the ability to transfer any Projects out of my Personal Hub

I have a number of Hubs, some with C4R projects and some with none.

I need to move a Project from my personal hub out to a Hub that as a number of demo 2016 and 2017 C4R Projects.

Is this possible ?  If not, is this also blocking the transfer to other Hubs that don't have C4R projects ?

thanks

John Stewart

Hi John,

  • Projects that have had C4R enabled on them are currently not able to be transferred, so yes, i believe that is likely the problem that you're having here.
  • For the projects that you're not using C4R on, they should be able to be transferred as long as you're following the rules in the video at the top of this Forum Post here.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Hi,

I was testing the feature and accidentally clicked OK instead of Cancel (got distracted by a colleague...) and initiated transfer of a project to a different hub. Luckily, the process failed at the very end, but I suffered for several minutes trying to find a way to abort the operation.

Could something be done with regards to this? For example, a second step asking "Are you sure you want to transfer project X to Hub Y? The process can not be stopped once initiated", or the ability to cancel the transfer once initiated?

Many thanks,

Rene Pellicer Garcia

Hi Rene,

Great idea.

  • So that you can get it in front of a broader audience, would you please add it to our A360 Ideas Board so that others can also add their comments and votes to raise the awareness and its ranking. (Be sure to check first if the idea already exists, then just add your comments to that already existing thread.)
  • Our Product Managers monitor that board for ideas to add into A360, so that is the best place for this to go.
Thanks,
