Objects not visible in layer manager in 3DS Max 2019.1.1

ARGH! This bug still exists in latest Max 2019.1.1

My incremental scene save save has no layers at all.  If I right click an object and view object properties and can see there is a named layer assigned to it but all I have in the layers panel is "0 (default)" with nothing in it.  This happened just after opening my scene where an XRef was missing which I fixed, if that has any bearing to it.

The accepted answer is not an answer for me, I have detailed layers within layers in this scene so DO NOT want to shove everything into one layer.  All I can do is go back to a previous save and lose my work.

Using dual monitors too, prior to this save was using one monitor.

Hello @Anonymous

Thanks fro bringing your question to the forums! This issue sounds super frustrating, I'm hoping that we can figure this out together 😄

Would you be able to send me a test file so I can see exactly what the issue is you are encountering? You can either attach it to your next post in a zip file, or send a file sharing link in a private message to me!

  • Have you tried reproducing this issue when working on one monitor?
  • What happens if you group the objects, or attach the objects? Does anything change in the scene explorer?
  • If you can't attache an example file, screenshots of your scene explorer and object properties would be super helpful

Talk to you soon!

Hi

I could not find a feasible solution so reverted to an older save and overwrote from there onward so I do not have the file.  If it happens again I will be back.

Thanks

I had this problem after working on a mesh from 2004/2005 !!

I could not get the object visible in the layer or scene explorer - apart from creating an object from scratch, and attaching the object to this.

A quick and easy method is to just highlight the object and go to Tools > Snapshot and delete the old one.
