I agree. Issue is, I took a lot of time to uninstall and reinstall plugins for example Vizpark plug ins, itoo software etc. I should not have to go through this charade. If I stay with max, I may just have to accept that I need to reinstall 2016. However, I do not think it should take 6 months to issue a fix for this relatively small issue it would seem.

My problem now is that I have had a Maintenance Subscription on my home version as well as both of my work versions for practically as long as subscriptions have been offered, and I am now faced with the prospect of having to move to the new subscription plan for all 3 systems. My director at work is very concerned about moving to a new subscription that will be more expensive, and we can only rely on a 2 year old version of the software to use in production. I share the same concerns for moving to the new subscription service for my home license as well. I have used 3ds Max since the old DOS versions, and I have loved using it, but I am thinking now that this might be the end of the road. It is hard to justify the increased expense at this point for a 2 year old version of the software. I will have to do a lot of thinking about this.

With subscription (vs maintenance) you will not need 'Home use' at all.  With subscription you can use the current version, or up to three versions back on any of your systems.  Your logon will be all you need to run the software from each new system.

It's a driver issue so the service pack can't fix it.  We need updated drivers from NVidia.

Service Pack 1 was released. Problem still appears. This is unacceptable. This time I am moving away from Max.

Hello @Anonymous,

This thread is about a freezing viewport, not hard crashes.  If you are having crashing issues please start a new thread and I will help you.  I have checked the CER logs and I have 0 submitted from you.  If you crash and want help with it, submit a CER with your email address and I can help you.

@Anonymous

The freezing issue will be fixed by a driver from NVIDIA, not a service pack.

Best Regards,

Since you guys are apparently in talks with nVidia about this issue, have they provided an ETA for when it will be resolved?

As said, above 2016 with vRay 3.4 is as good as any Aspirin.

Hello @Anonymous,

Using DX9 fixes the frozen viewport for the vast majority of people, but apparently not all.  What are your current plugins?

Hi Gregg,

Thanks for your info regarding home use on Subscription vs. Maintenance. I use my "Home" version for freelance work not associated with Work work so I pay for a home license to not get in trouble for using work software for personal use.

My main issue is not that I have to pay for 3 licenses between my work versions and my home version. It is that I have to use a 2 year old version of the software for production. I can not "trust" the newer versions yet to rely on them in a production environment. It is rapidly coming up time to renew all 3 versions, either for Maintenance or Subscription, and I am having a hard time justifying the expense to my bosses when I am using a 2 year old version of the software. They are asking me why they are paying this yearly expense if I am using an older version. My response that the newer versions are not stable in a production setting yet is not flying well with them, so you can see my dilemma about renewing. Working for a state institution, budgets are tight and they want results from the money they spend and I don't have an answer for them. See my dilemma?

You can E-mail me because subscription and mainteance isn't really part of this thread.  Home Use is not for separate production purposes unrelated to the license holder's LSA.  Read the first paragraph in the FAQ (link below).

Home Use FAQ

If you mean Home version as in "my own license," that is different.  Maintenance gives you access to direct support, add-on items, training, and access to the current versions plus three back.  Therefore, today you get support on Max 2015-2018.  If you don't care about any of that, and want to rely on forum type help, you don't need to pay for maintenance.  However, at that point, you have to stick with the last supported version when you terminate maintenance (you can't use all of the four versions, just one).  If you were stuck on 2014 for example, it might make sense to drop maintenance.

One big caveat:  If you drop maintenance, you will lose your license's perpetual status.  You cannot restart maintenance and get the a later version.  You will have to buy a new subscription.  However, you can buy subscriptions in shorter chunks (i.e., monthly), so that might actually work better for you.

All software has issues, and this particular threads issue is related to a video driver defect we uncovered.  I, like you, am at the mercy of the drivers of the hardware sometimes.  My ATI card, for example, does not have this problem.

Hello @Anonymous,

There is a problem with W10 and the Vizpark Walls and Tiles with Max 2017 and NVIDIA drivers right now.  It's fine on Win7 or with ATI from what I've seen, but I believe the root of the issue is the driver issue being discussed in this thread.  I've emailed with Martin, the CEO of Vizpark about this quite a bit.  He's a nice guy who really wants to see a resolution for his customers.  On my machine (Win7, Quadro K2100M) I have not been able to crash it at all and I've tried.

EDIT: Spelling

Hi Alfred,

Martin is indeed a great guy and has always come back to me when I have emailed regarding issues or if I have needed help with plug ins.

I look forward to the fix. In the meantime, please keep us updated on progress where you can on this thread and if and when you can release a date for the expected fix.

Many thanks,

Carl
