You can E-mail me because subscription and mainteance isn't really part of this thread. Home Use is not for separate production purposes unrelated to the license holder's LSA. Read the first paragraph in the FAQ (link below).
Home Use FAQ
If you mean Home version as in "my own license," that is different. Maintenance gives you access to direct support, add-on items, training, and access to the current versions plus three back. Therefore, today you get support on Max 2015-2018. If you don't care about any of that, and want to rely on forum type help, you don't need to pay for maintenance. However, at that point, you have to stick with the last supported version when you terminate maintenance (you can't use all of the four versions, just one). If you were stuck on 2014 for example, it might make sense to drop maintenance.
One big caveat: If you drop maintenance, you will lose your license's perpetual status. You cannot restart maintenance and get the a later version. You will have to buy a new subscription. However, you can buy subscriptions in shorter chunks (i.e., monthly), so that might actually work better for you.
All software has issues, and this particular threads issue is related to a video driver defect we uncovered. I, like you, am at the mercy of the drivers of the hardware sometimes. My ATI card, for example, does not have this problem.
