Where to start?

Spence here again.

Got to be a beginner sometime.  Really... I have never written code before a week ago.

Is there a list of VLIDE error codes and resolutions?

Any extended videos on VLIDE ins and outs.  That is,,, long and slow and patient.

I like the built-in VLIDE workplace because it connects a lot easier to an open drawing and has a lot fewer tools to get lost in.

But its help window is "Intro to Autocad".    Kinda like a brick wall.

VSCode is very shiny and clever and Sophisticated. And Sophisticated

Thanks.      Spence the 62 year old kid.

For VS Code I assume you went through the instructions in #3:

AutoCAD 2023 Developer and ObjectARX Ayuda | Getting Started with Visual Studio Code (AutoLISP/VS Co...

I'd also suggest you learn from a site like this one:

AutoLISP Beginners' Tutorials | AfraLISP

You can actually enter the sample code directly at the AutoCAD command prompt as you start the learning process

I would say use Vlide to write code but it wont teach you how to write code, if your new have a look at say Afralisp Tutorials, many good lisp examples. Google is your friend, when using add "Autocad Lisp" to your search.

Learn AutoLISP for AutoCAD productivity | AfraLISP

Others will give other links also.

@spence7 ,

I like your attitude.

My first two childish 76-year-old mottos are:

1.  You gotta start somewhere.

2.  If you don't know, ask.

This may get me in worse trouble than I am, but I can't resist 'cause I didn't want you to think I was shallow:

3.  You just can't deal with an @$$h0le.

And...

4.  You don't get any bigger by belittling others.

5.  You don't get any cleaner by dragging someone into the mud with you.

6.  If you're in a hole, stop digging. (Now that's not necessarily true.  If you start digging at one side, at an angle, you will not only start filling the bottom, but you can create a slope to climb out.  Just don't dig toward a nearby creek if you don't know how to tread water.)

Personally I don't like VLIDE.  I don't know how to use it except for matching parentheses, but TextPad and NotePad2 can both do that.  All the rest you learn here by example, and by some very thorough explanations from @Kent1Cooper .

I think John referred to Notepad++, also has a run code from notepad++ very handy.

Thank you, Alan, for that correction.

I just have the shortcut pinned to my taskbar.  I don't pay any attention to what it's named.  What it does is most important.

@spence7 ,

Thank you, but I don't think my response deserved an acceptance compared to the others' salient answers.  But that's okay as long as you maintain that adventurous attitude.

May success find your way (or vice versa).
