Autoloader is a key tool for vault to bulk upload files, however, the tool itself have many limitations, make it not so usable, especially after the vault is already online, some limitations I listed as follows:
- Autoloader will auto create a new inventor project and have rigid project structures, even if the vault is already well set up with existing inventor project settings.
- Even if we can edit the hidden buu.xml file to setup project settings for autoloader, it's still very cubersome to do so, and still some limitations.
- Require the "Enforce unique file names" options in vault to turn off.
- Require administrator role to use. (There is already a accepted idea about this.)
- Not very friendly to other file types.
Such limitations make autoloader very limited used in reality, only experienced administrators can use it, and to be honest, I don't like it. I hope we can improve it, release its real power and huge potential, and make it a true joy to use autoloader. What I want:
- Autoloader will only create new project if there is no existing project setting in vault, if so, let us choose the new project name, and all the folder structure settings easily editable.
- If the vault is already set up, use existing project setting directly, if needed, let us map the workspace folders directly to existing vault folders. Make it easy to configure.
- Do not ask us to turn off "Enforce unique file names" option, scan and check for duplication in existing vault automatically before uploading, so that we can fix it as required.
- Make it more compatible with other file types, especially AutoCAD files with xrefs, for example.
That is what I can come out with for now, please comment if you have more idea.
