Import Vault property data from Excel spreadsheet

Wish we could update properties (metadata) for drawings from Excel spreadsheet. Ideally, the spreadsheet would have columns for filename and the your selected properties. From the Tools menu you would choose Import properties, pick your Excel file, that matched the entries in the Filename column to files in Vault and updated properties corresponding to the other named columns in your spreadsheet.

We receive a lot of drawings from external contractors. It would be very nice to be able to populate drawing metadata this way.

Thank you for posting the idea. Have you tried copying from the excel sheet directly into the Edit Properties dialog?

Steps

1. In the Vault Client, select all the files you want to edit properties.
2. Make sure the properties are columns in the grid, then use File->Export to get an excel sheet with all of the files and those property values.
3. Edit the property values in Excel
4. Back in the Vault client, make sure all of the files are selected, and select the properties you want to edit in the Properties grid. 
5. Click the Edit Selected Properties button at the top of the Property Grid panel.
6. Select all property values in the excel sheet and select Copy
7. Paste those in the Edit Properties dialog.

I have somewhat the same problem in populating the list values for property field as administrative task...
I use PowerShell to mitigate this issue:

$arrayOfStrings = @('AC', 'AD', 'AE')
