Working with scan files - when you open the NWD or NWF files you have to open and reference all referenced scans. Not all users will reference in the scans because it is time consuming and tedious. Therefore, those users are not getting the 'full' picture.
Their process is to save the RCS reference files to a shared location so everyone can get to them.
Navisworks will remember references but does not save them to Vault, and this is a normal and acceptable practice.
We would like to see an NWD file saved with embedded RCS files so that the file is a single file that can contain multiple RCS files. This file could then be viewed by users with Navisworks Freedom as a single 3D model or referenced into a larger model with similar NWD files.
With Navisworks Freedom reading the model by referencing one NWD file rather than multiple RCS files it would make use of scans more efficient, and users would view the whole file without having to go through the process of referencing multiple files.
This capability does not exist today as we know it.
This request is really a suggestion and petition to bring to attention of Autodesk as an enhancement.
One reason for this suggestion is to make the models easier to share and use for the end user.
Make it easy enough for all to use.
Also - with the coming changes in Autodesk licensing more users will be using the free viewers like Navisworks Freedom instead of the named user license cost for Navisworks Manage.
