Built in viewer for all AutoCAD and Inventor file types in Vault and Vault web client

Can we get a viewer in Vault and Vault web client that can just preview native AutoCAD and Inventor files? We don't have any need to generate DWFs or PDFs, and we don't want to generate them just to make the viewer work. BIM360 seems to be able to do this already.

Thank you for posting the idea.

If you want to view native file formations, you can use DWG TrueView, Inventor Read-only, or Inventor View without having DWF files.

What about users who only use the web client? Or only have Vault installed? BIM 360 allows for viewing of all sorts of files right within a web browser. I get that the current answer is all those individual programs, but why can't Vault have the functionality added to it?

That functionality requires a lot of code that translates the authoring tools files into a different format. The translation of the native file into these formats adds a lot of time and performance to the environment. Therefore Vault translates the DWF file which doesn't require components from the authoring tool to translate into the Autodesk Viewer format used in the Thin Client.

So what do we do to get this functionality in the web client? This would be would be extreamly helpful to our guys in the field that may not have CAD but need to see assemblies and drawings in Vault. DWFs are not a reliable option for this, exspecially given the performance and size impact from every check in generating them. We know it can be done with BIM360 and it is something that Solidworks currently does as well. I would up vote this if I could.

thanks to tom.liakopoulos to race this topic, I support this request

don´t got why Autodesk could not show native dwg´s in the Vault Thin Client, nor in vault Pro

ok "a lot of code that translates" but will help the user to save time, to avoid the need of creating and store dwf.
