Does check out refresh the file in the working folder?

I found the main Autodesk article on this but it wasn't very clear.

If I check out a file, does it download the most recent version of the file and replace it in my working folder, or is it possible to check it out but be working on a version that is different from the most recent in vault?

I always use Get to replace the files on my local drive, but a colleague has been using checkout to get fresh copies and I wasn't sure if this was a safe way of doing it?

Thanks

Hi,

It depends on several things.

What version of the file you get in relationship with the selected file.

if you have already files open in any other application than the files are get different.

and if you use the latest released version in the files related otherwise the one that is the last checked out wins.

Sorry I don't understand any of that.

For clarification though:

I have an assembly open in Inventor.

I right click the vault add-in and choose to checkout all files.

Will that replace all the files in my working folder with the current version from vault, or will it purely check them out to stop other people working on them and he will continue to see the local file from the working directory?

My colleague wants all files in Inventor to be the most current version and this is what he is using the check out process for.

I personally use 'get' because I don't believe you should check things out that you are not working on.

If I am understanding what your co-worker is wanting, they can always set their "check-out" options to get the latest.  Here is an image describing the area they need to update:

Thanks, I will check they have this.
I'm assuming that's off by default.
And if it's off they could be editing an old version?

If I tick the box under 'dialog suppression,' does that mean that it won't show the dialogue?

It's really confusing me the way it's laid out.

Thanks
