Firmware as an item type

While there is a type for Software Packages, there is no type for firmware. 

It would be good if one could have a item type for firmware (FW) to which one could upload the compiled binary images. Version management of the code is done elsewhere, but it would be good if one could use Upchain to handle the binary images as if they were any other part.

Please note that you can send a support ticket to create an Item type for your Company with the type: "Firmware (FW)".

You can use this type as an eBOM Item which would contain all needed binary images for your project. You can add this to the Items Documents section - General or any category you have created or you can also add new specification documentation for it where you can revise it and release it for usage.

This Item would then be present in your eBOM reports.

Not sure  is what I tried to request. In the same way there are assembly, electrical package, software types, I want to have a firmware item in the BOM.  Having it under specification documentation is not a good solution. 

A binary image goes into the assembly in the same way as any other part, except it is not possible to handle physically.

Those additional options I mentioned were for version control of Items you populate your "Firmware" Item type with.
