I am an Art Teacher and just presented at Texas Computer Education Associations 2019 Conference in San Antonio, Texas. I presented info on School Branding, Visual Literacy, and Graphic Design as a means of developing stronger creativity skills in students. Our Website is https://www.artmediaschools.com and there are lots of examples of what we have developed at Glen Rose High School. 90% of the visuals were created in Autodesk Sketchbook. I am interested in presenting information about Sketchbook to educators, especially at EdTech conferences like TCEA. My experience as a veteran educator has shown me the strength of Sketchbook, as an entry level graphic design tool. I acknowledge that much of the world uses Photoshop for graphic design, but Photoshop is intimidating to most students because of its complexity. At my school, Photoshop is taught in the Career and Technical Education (CATE) department and those classes have just a few students who take the semester to learn basic functioning in Photoshop. I teach Art & Media Communications and my students use Sketchbook. My students are creating graphic designs within the first week, yet I find Sketchbook deep enough that my students can discover new tools for creating throughout the school year. When I presented at TCEA, I found a LOT of interest in Sketchbook, mostly to my point; students who would have never taken a Photoshop class find Sketchbook more intuitive and accessible as a tool for creative expression. I believe that I can present what we are doing with School Branding, Creativity, and Graphic Design at conferences like TCEA, do hands-on workshops about Sketchbook, and teach teachers the accessibility to creative expression that Sketchbook is fully capable of. I saw no representation of Sketchbook at TCEA at all and I feel this is a disservice to education, especially in a time when Creativity, Visual Literacy and Digital Literacy are in such need in our Educational System. Please look at our website and consider contacting me about possibilities and potential.
