Switch to Linux

I purchased Simulation MES 2011 with a year subscription and support back in, well, 2011

I got the free upgrade to Simulation Mechanical 2012 during that time, and I am happy with it

Unfortunatley, Windows 10 will not allow this to run. But I can run Linux. I have the original 2011 Linux disk, but the upgrade is only Windows 7 64 bit.

Os there anyway I can recall the Linux download for 2012, or am I stuck running a windows 7 Machine for all time?

Hi @Anonymous,

Regrettably it is not possible for us to make the older versions of Simulation Mechanical compatible with Windows 10. It takes a lot of work to get the latest versions compatible, as you can imagine bringing up code that is missing 5 years of changes would be quite challenging. The Linux version that shipped with Simulation Mechanical 2012 is actually only the solvers and includes no interface to build your models. I'll see if I can find a download for you to install, as it was shipped separately and only on request. We are currently running a promotion however where you can turn in your old perpetual Simulation Mechanical license for a sizable discount on a new multi-user subscription. I can have someone from the sales team reach out to you if you'd like some more details on this.

Regards,

Andrew

I do not want Windows 10. I will not have it on any of my computers if I can help it.

You didn't even read the question. Went directly to Sales mode. Totally unacceptable answer.

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm sorry if it seemed that I went into sales mode, I only meant to offer you choices. As I mentioned in my initial post the Linux version of Simulation Mechanical was solvers-only, it included no user interface to pre-process, process, or post-process models; it was strictly a command-line interface. Support of the Linux version of Simulation Mechanical was subsequently discontinued and it's officially outside Autodesk's 1+3 support window. If you are using Windows 10, then upgrading to the latest version, Simulation Mechanical 2017, is the only version compatible.

Regards,

Andrew

I don't want Windows 10.

I have the original Algor Simulation MES 2011 disks for both Windows and
Linux.

At some point during my subscription, I received an upgrade to 2012,
which included the solvers and Inventor Fusion:

I do not want any Windows 10 support, i was wanting to try to get the
Linux version of what I have.

If it is not available, I will have to maintain a Windows 7 machine and
try to avoid the updates that want to render MES unusable.

I have Linux versions of the other software I use, and am switching from
Windows to Linux for everything else.

At my age, contemplating retirement, making a long-term commitment to a
subscription makes no sense at all.

Hi @Anonymous,

I've checked our internal depository of installers, but we only maintain installers for the currently supported versions, so which is presently Simulation Mechanical 2014. I also asked around among those of us in the FEA group and no one had by chance kept a copy of the installer on their workstation.

Regards,

Andrew

Ok.
I hate to do it, but maintaining a Win 7 machine looks like my only real
option.
I do actually appreciate the effort.
Dual boot. Yipee...
