Someone here has installed inventor 2020 on their box. Now when trying to run a simulation in sim mech 2018. it locks up when preparing in the software. We checked to make sure the service is running and that the windows firewall isn't blocking the software.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi @Anonymous

I am not entirely sure which "preparing" situation you are referring to, but I think it is probably this one:

  • When starting an analysis, the Design Study indicates "Preparing".

I suggest that you run the program SimJobManagerConfig.exe located in the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Simulation Job Manager" folder. Run that program after exiting Sim Mech and killing any current jobs that may be "stuck".

The other possibility that occurs is when starting the Sim Mech program, you can receive a message about needing to install, repair, update some other program (such as AutoCAD ... if I remember correctly ... or some other program that does not seem to be relevant to Sim Mech). Somewhere in the documentation or on the internet is the Sim Mech 2018.1 readme file, and the readme file contains this blurb which may help:

  • SimMECH 2018.1 gets corrupted when either of latest Autodesk product is installed. It
    often asks windows upgrade installer.
  • Solution: Go to Control panel, select Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2018-> Click
Uninstall/Change from menu. Maintenance options shows up, select Repair/Reinstall.
Later, select Reinstall radio button. Once it reinstalls the product works fine.

Let us know which of those fix the problem, or if neither is the solution.

thanks for the info, we actually found out that once he logged out of his autodesk account it would work. Not sure what that exactly does, but it worked
