Instability of nodes created by shell element

Hi,

I have put together a model for the assessment of a bridge. Currently the model just has preliminary section sizes, however i assume this shouldn't make a difference to the errors that are occurring. When running the model, it is throwing out a lot of errors in relation to nodes created by the insertion of a shell element. The model seems to accept the other shell elements added and it is only model 8886 which is giving errors, so i am not exactly sure why these issues are happening.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

hi @Andrew_Troy

Some bars are overlapped by panel edges that are too close to each other. You need to adjust your panels.

You must also check the connections of the bars arriving at nodes 248, 1430, and 1471.

You can ignore bars when generating the mesh. Ensure that certain out-of-plane panels do not create nodes adjacent to bars

Good afternoon Stephane,

Thanks very much for your reply. Just to confirm, when you say "some bars are overlapped by panel edges" are you implying that the panels are drawn incorrectly and should be "attached" to more surrounding panels?

"Ensure that certain out-of-plane panels do not create nodes adjacent to bars" - How does one ensure this?

Thanks very much

Andy

hi @Andrew_Troy

Either the panels or the bars are misaligned and should be perfectly plumb. You’ll need to adjust the geometry to align the edges with the bars
