Grating Panel issues

Trying to create a grating panel, but getting a diagonal member, which is not part of the structure. Also the direction of span should be in the short length and not the long length of the member, as is been shown by robot. See attached sketch. Ideas how to take off the diagonal line as well as orient the grating in the right span.

Thank you

See attached for the panel calculation model

You are mixing everything!!

When your calculation model defines "no finite elements" , than it means it will not analyse the slab forces, stresses and displacements.

And when you do that together with diaphragm you don´t need to define a thickness with orthotropy.

The "diagonal member" is just a graphical representation (rigid links) of diaphragm you defined.

As you are stuck with simplified method of load distribution, due to no finite elements , then , goto Geometry/additional atributes/load distribution and choose the direction you want to distribite the load.

Hi Rafacascudo,

Thank you for the reply, I am still kind of new to the software, so still kind of learning the software. I have remodelled it as you suggested, using finite elements without stiffening. It seems to be working ok, though it does not seem to be analysing the slab stresses (see attached)

You will not have correct slab stresses with "simplified method of load distribution"

It has to be analytic. Choose shell calculation model . And then to show the slab stresses it is on Results/Maps../Detailed tab or principal tab. Also check the parameters tab to set the layer where you want the stress results.

You can set the main orthotropy direction on the thickness dialog. On each direction option there is the description below.

Beware of stresses on orthotropic panels. Most probably they will be wrong. Check this thread
