Column to slab alignment

Hello all,

I have a question which might be simple but is confusing me a little.

I’m drawing a slab supported by columns only. Of course I place the columns at the edges, corners and internally to support the slab.

when I place a column at the edge or corner, the middle of the column is aligned with the edge of the slab. This means that half my column is outside the slab edge for edge columns and 3/4 of my columns are outside for corner columns.

if I align the column edge with the slab edge, meaning I place my columns a distance away from the slab edge, then I have issues with mesh generation and I’ll have a small cantilever the length equal to half the column width.

am I reasoning this out correctly?
