Revit 2017 - No New Structural Connections

So I'm running the new Revit 2017 and with eager antisipation, went straight for the new Structual Connections feature....nothing.  Only the generic connection object is listed.  I tried loading any familes I could find, but they don't show up as new structural connection objects.  I think the ones available to load are the old style, not the newer ones that interface with Advance Steel 2017.  Any ideas?

Autodesk Desktop manager? What is the name of the App? I can not find it, looked for it everywhere, on App store, on Autodesk account.

The Steel Connections for Revit addon is not available through the App Store.

The Steel Connections for Revit addon is only available through the "Autodesk Desktop App".

The  Autodesk Desktop App is installed with Revit 2017 (and other Autodesk 2017 products).

You can find it by searching in the Windows Start Menu, or under All Programs>Autodesk>Autodesk Desktop App

I have experienced some issues and I found out the imperial content & template from Autodesk work better with Steel Connections for Revit.  I have no luck (lots of "invalid connection" warning messages) in a metric project except the Autodesk STR sample house model.

Steel Connections work only with Revit certified families.

The simplest way to identify if a section is certified is to check in the profile type properties if it has the parameter "Section Name Key" ( see attached pic ).

Here you can find a detailed list of the certified families delivered with Revit 2017: http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-6244E741-5D14-4DAD-AE25-5069F71B69F3

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I used all of the out-of-the-box Revit certified family, W-Wide Flange series. What I am experiencing is the steel connection working fine with Imperial template & content but failed with metric template & content. I am going to submit a ticket with file attached soon.

Thanks Philippe. I have watched the video before and understood the process. Attached screenshot is my testing result.  What I experienced is the steel connection works fine with Imperial template & content but failed with metric template & content. Most annoying thing is when I encountered the "Invalid Connection Input" warning, I cannot modify the parameters. I only can delete it and redo again with some trial errors.

Is there any update or hotfix for this bug?

When I place the connection I get a Red circle and the warning "Invalid connector input." Any idea what this means?

Could you provide more information about the situations where you get this error?

My first guess would be that you might not be using Certified Families.

That was my initial thought but I made sure to load from the Revit 2017 imperial library, STD wide flange shapes? Other location I should be looking?

The families that you want to use are in the "AISC 14.1" subdirectory.

More information about which families are compatible with Structural connections is available here:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-6244E741-5D14-4DAD-AE25-5069F71B69F3

ok I loaded those families and replaced the previous families, still getting the error. I do see the "Section Name Key" parameter in the type properties, but I did before when I loaded the 2017 families from the main structural directory.

Can you upload a model?  It's very difficult to troubleshoot what might be happening without more information.

Thanks,

I get message "invalid connection input", even I'm using certified families from "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries\Germany\Tragwerk Träger\Stahl" and "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries\Germany\Tragwerk Stützen\Stahl".

But, when I'm using from "US metric AISC14.1", it works well.

Thanks,

Martin

Hello Rusand, The certified families contain a new parameter called "Section Name Key". Steel Connections can be placed only on profiles which contain this new parameter. http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-6244E741-5D14-4DAD-AE25-5069F71B69F3 The families are localized, this means that the parameters are translated to different languages depending on the country of the content. The translated parameters are read by Revit only if the platform is opened in that language, meaning that if you want to use the German Content you will have to turn Revit's language to German. In order to change Revit's language to something different then English, please see the following page: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/... So if you want to use the German content you will have to turn Revit to German language. The English content works correctly on your side because Revit is in English and the "Section Name Key" is read when you "Insert" the family in the project. Hope this answered your question, Mihai Sandu

Hi again Martin,

The English version of the European specific steel shapes (which you can use in Revit - English) are located inside the following country folders:

Belgium, Finland, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Romania and Sweden. After you install the content of this countries the European shapes can be found in:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries\"Country"\Structural Framing\Steel\Europe Specific
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries\"Country"\Structural Columns\Steel\Europe Specific

Hope this answer solved your issue.

Regards,

Mihai Sandu
