Issue with Elevation Head Rotation – Text Alignment and Line Behavior Not Ideal

Hi all,

Description:

I’m encountering an issue with the elevation head in Revit when rotating the elevation marker. The behavior of the elevation number, sheet reference, and internal separation line is not functioning as expected compared to how section heads behave.

Issue Breakdown:

1. Text Rotation (Elevation Number & Sheet Reference):

  • When rotating the elevation head, the elevation number and the sheet reference number also rotate.

  • However, the rotation is not centered or horizontally aligned as it is with a section head, where the text remains cleanly aligned and centered regardless of the section direction.

2. Separation Line Not Rotating Properly:

  • The horizontal line that separates the elevation number and the sheet reference within the elevation head does not rotate at all.

  • It appears that this line is not linked to any rotation parameter, which prevents it from aligning correctly with the rotated orientation of the elevation head.

Expected Behavior:

  • Similar to section heads:

    • The elevation number and sheet reference should stay centered and horizontally aligned regardless of rotation.

    • The separation line should rotate along with the head or be tied to a parameter that controls its orientation.

Additional Notes:

  • I’ve reviewed the family and it seems that the issue may be due to the text and line elements not being constrained to a shared rotation parameter.

  • Unticking the built-in parameters like "Keep Readable" and "Fixed Rotation" helps to center the text, but it does not keep the text horizontally aligned regardless of the elevation head’s rotation—unlike section heads. Instead, the text continues to rotate based on the elevation arrow’s direction, which results in non-horizontal orientation.

  • Additionally, the separation line remains static and does not rotate with the head, leading to further misalignment.

    Cheers

Thank you for the advice. It appears that the Section Marker template offers a different set of built-in parameters and behaviors compared to what is available when editing an Elevation Marker family.

My original post was meant to share findings and observations based on a comparison between these two family types. While I recognize that I may not be in a position to directly critique Autodesk’s internal design choices, it seems that improving the Elevation Marker family itself—rather than relying on adapting the Section Head family—could be a more practical and beneficial solution for users.

Enhancing the elevation marker’s native capabilities would help streamline customization and reduce the need for workarounds, ultimately improving usability for a wider range of users.
