adding unprintable structural column dimensions on plan

an engineer with whom I work wantsme to add column dimensions on plan beside structural column.

I wonder if there is a quick way to modify a column family to achieve such thing.

I do not understand your question well, can you post a sketch?

so your coworker wants to see the dimensions of the columns on the plans, but you don't want them printed? is that correct?

Revit does not have "Don't Print" option like AutoCAD dose in the layer settings.  however, dimensions are View Specific so you can duplicate your view and add dimensions to that view. when your coworker wants to see the column dimensions, they can look at the view that has them displayed.

A lot of companies have adopted a Working and Documentation view work flow.

  • Working views are views you can add extra information that you don't want to see on a sheet.
  • Documentation view is a standardized view, usually with a View Template, that is what gets placed on a sheet.
