Project Phases Disappeared

Since upgrading to and using Revit 2017 (Building Design Suite Premium) we have had three projects (so far) that have somehow lost all the project phases.  There is no Existing phase, there is no New Construction phase.  You cannot create any new phases.  If I import phase settings from another project and then switch a plan to new construction phase (or any phase) the graphic filters still won't work, the spaces disappear, new spaces will not recognize walls and/or space separations.

Up to now, we have not figured out what causes this.  Can't recreate it.  But, when it happens, the project is pretty much unfixable.

I found a solution.  Not fun but it works.  I will post a write up soon.  Fixes the valves issue, spaces, phases, and sections.

We tried your fix. It works. Thanks for researching that. I still think Autodesk needs to fix the actual problem though!
Kudos!

I don't mind crediting you with a solution but won't that put it "out of mind and out of sight" as far as Autodesk is concerned.  It 'is' still a bug that they need to be aware of and hopefully, fix.

We just came across this problem. I have not tried the workaround in the PDF, but it looks like that should work well. Thanks for that!. Also doing electrical. We are using Revit 2017.1. I started a support ticket with Autodesk. Hopefully others in this thread have as well... as that is the most formal way bugs get in their system (as Anthony Hauck mentioned in a BIMThoughts podcast a while back).

In addition to Revit we have used the Space Naming tool (which is now built in as of 2017.1) and ElumTools for lighting design.

How do you go about initiating a support ticket? Do you have to call Autodesk or were you able to do that online?

Thanks.

Yes, per the link Mitchelld3680 just posted... plus if your office has an account administrator (for Autodesk subscription) they may have to edit your user profile so you have access to "web support". This is similar for access to GBS and rendering... or anything using cloud credits.

Dan.stine, have you had any luck with your support case through Autodesk?

I also started a support ticket.  So far, the Autodesk person is saying that it is something in my network - or that I need to build a completely new project template (instead of using a template that was created previous to Revit 2017).  That is pretty crazy!

We still have projects that are losing all their phases and it is pretty annoying (not to mention the fact that it causes setbacks in our projects).

The support person also says that he will "likely need to send this to the development team, but we first need to be able to "reproduce" the issue.".  The problem is that we can't reproduce the issue!  We have tried but do not know what triggers it.

Just thought I'd check in and see if anybody has had any luck with Autodesk?

Yes, sorry for not replying to give an update. Autodesk support was able to use a special tool to fix the corruption and send the file back. Before I got the fixed file, I had tried the steps mentioned earlier in this post, but it still had problems... like the Spaces still existing in the database but not being accessible do to how they work with phases.

It appears this only happens to people working with Revit electrical commands based on what I have seen in forum posts.

Our template is older and we have not had this problem before.

I just had the same issue in Revit 2017.2 while circuiting light fixtures. I had to restore an old backup. I opened a support ticket as well. This is a HUGE issue. I hope Autodesk (a) fixes the bug and (b) lets users know it has been fixed.

Well, as far as I can tell, it has been solved in Revit 2018. They should still fix Revit 2017 though.

Here is a post I wrote on this topic: http://bimchapters.blogspot.com/2017/03/project-phases-disappear-in-revit-2017.html

Once we stopped using the Spline Wire command, we have not had this problem (knock on wood)

I just had this happen in 2018. Transfer project standards worked. Haven't spent much time with the file to know what changed if anything.

An issue has been identified where, in some cases, when the Wire Tool is cancelled (X instead of the Checkmark) that this issue occurs.

Here is the article on the issue (this article will be updated when there is a resolution):

Project phases disappear after a wire run tool is started and canceled

I also wanted to add an update...
Turns out the issue is NOT fixed in Revit 2018.

I have had an open support ticket for a week now. I just restored a backup and redid all the work we lost.

Based on the response time to my support ticket, your best bet is probably to restore a backup or use the workaround that mvoss posted on 10-28-2016. Good luck!

How frequently are people experiencing this issue? This is the first time we have had the problem in 3+ years of using Revit. I get the feeling the problem is rare, but a doozy.
