Opening the visibility settings dialog to see and set visibility options should be unnecessary. Not knowing the current visibility states for creating new objects wastes a lot of time. One should be able to see and to adjust the visibility states of selected objects in the options bar. When one is creating objects, the detail levels should appear in the options bar. This should be a user selectable option in the options dialog if not everyone wants to see this information.
Example 1: At creation of 3d geometry, while still selected, the detail levels should be shown in the options bar. An alternative is to put them in the properties bar while in the editor mode.
Example 2: When adding symbolic content, it's important to think about the detail level. The setting on the view control bar shows the current detail level but that doesn't relate to the actual detail levels selected in the visibility settings dialog, so it is possible to draw geometry and then later get warned that it doesn't show because of "view settings", leaving the user to guess what setting might be at fault. Putting the symbolic line visibility check marks in the option bar along with a warning that if the current detail level is missing that user won't see what they are drawing would be helpful.
