Toggling “Show Edges” affects all edges in the view. It is obviously easy enough for Revit to turn off edges of imports with that toggle, but as an interface-palm issue we are only enable to turn off edges along with all other edges.
The issue is regarding visibility of edges on imported models such as OBJ and SKP and more generally regarding the usefulness of imported objects (especially from non-Autodesk-native formats) in Revit by virtue of being able to control their individual appearance.

Revit 2023 has new functionality so that newly imported meshes from Rhino and OBJ support hidden edges. This also applies for meshes generated in the Revit API (for example enscape asset placeholders).
However, this functionality only applies to newly imported elements. Existing imports in older projects that you upgrade to Revit 2023 will still have hidden edges.
This new change does not apply to Sketchup yet, because Revit unfortunately imports Sketchup models as an exploded mesh (each triangle is a single-face mesh). Because the 'hidden edge' feature usually only works on internal edges in a mesh, the system isn't working yet. The best way forward for sketchup files in my opinion is updating the importer so that Sketchup imports are no longer exploded on import. That way, edges should be hidden in Revit exactly like you would expect (matching the edge visibility from inside Sketchup).
So for everyone reporting issues, it would help if you could mention
1) Revit version you are using
2) whether the imports are existing or newly imported
3) what fileformat you are importing
Because the answer/limitations are going to depend on those 3 factors.
