split schedules across multiple sheets

split schedules across multiple sheets

there needs to be a better way to split schedules across multiple sheets, the current method of duplicating schedules and using two filters to reduced the scheduled elements is poor. There must be a better way... even if we had to duplicate sheets, at least let us tell the schedule what row number to start from and end with i.e. sheet one - 1 to 30, sheet two - 31 to 60... etc.

As a API developer Kiwi Codes I have added to one of my tools from Bonus Tools to automate the printing of schedules.

The method has been discussed within this thread, I just didn't fully appreciate what could be achieved...

The Method

Layout title blocks on 1 sheet, use the simple splits etc. to place schedules across multiple title blocks.

Image 1.pngThen using Kiwi Codes Bonus Tools, tool 56, choose Multi Title Block Sheet, entering in the columns and rows and sheets size and print. Print time is fast, layout is fast, dealing with filters is a thing of the past, exporting to excel is a thing of the past. It will print as you read, top left to bottom right.

Note: Anything outside the title block will interfere with the print locations.

For MEP shedules in  russian standarts there is very simple plugin https://apps.autodesk.com/RVT/ru/Detail/Index?id=515154252762362011

Hello,

After reading through all of this - what if your schedule can't be filtered any more, type marks are sorted in various categories, and it is still too long? I tried the "moving to side" method and it screws up the printing. Is there no way just to separate the schedule on multiple pages?

All these workarounds are great. I truly appreciate the effort that people put into finding these workarounds and the fact that they are willing to share their knowledge with their community. BUT...

WTF Autodesk?!!! Because 21st century. Come on guys, put together a cohesive set of features that would deliver a solid set of improvements in just one area instead of the current way of just grabbing random stuff. The way that new features are picked for release is a mystery at best. Either actually do the things that hundreds of people vote for or give us a reason why those things cannot be done and let's be done with it. And if the above two options are not really viable then this forum is pointless. It's just a victim support group.

Sheeeesh, sometimes I just gotta vent my frustration and today is one of those days. I have to make a very long table in Revit (using a hack) and then somehow split it over multiple pages (using more hacks).

Yeah. I think needs to be implemented sooner rather than later. More and more of our users are using the data in the model to schedule thing and some projects will have hundreds of rows per instance. Being able to split among multiple sheets should be a default capability, not something to work-around. Really hope this gets accepted for implementation!

Absolutely agree that this needs to be implemented. Work arounds are good to have, but it should have been a natively supported feature.

The Filter workabound works fine to me but one thing is missing - the option to display the grand total amount of items on ALL PAGES. did anyone deal with that?

@Anonymous

I found the that "split and move" method work if you align the schedules vertically instead of horizontally. Since as you said, Revit will define the most left item become 0,0. I have tried this way and it just works for me. Amazing.

Oh... It gone fail again. I just got it right for one sheet. Sad.

I got the sheets to print in the "split and move" technique by having a much larger box around the sheet (i included it in the title block family), which encompassed all of the schedules i needed to print. As long as that box has the sheet you are printing at its center and nothing outside of it, you can then use the print centrally option instead of offsets.

Still a massively annoying workaround when im doing 40-60 pages of a single schedule. I just end up exporting to excel.

Congrats! We think this is a great idea, so we've decided to add it to our roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion!

Seems like a page break in word/excel, but here it yields dependant views which are portions of a schedule.  The additional benefit of this is that (when) it becomes possible to select schedules as Linked Views from outside projects, the dependant views of the schedule would also be available for selection.

Yes. This needs to be a feature as well as 'splitting' or cropping a big Drafting View. Electrical often has long one line diagrams. In AutoCAD we just crop the view. Not so easy in Revit.

What I got to work well with the schedule thing is to offset lines from the middle of the sheet equal distances both ways and use the Center print method. Works great. Someone else here mentioned drawing a big box around everything with the border centered. Same principle. But, yeah, zoom extents is a minor problem. And, of course, someone will see those lines out there are delete them.

Status changed to: Implemented

We are pleased to say that this has been implemented in Revit 2022!

Nice feature, it would be nice if split schedule was available to more than one sheet and unique to each sheet.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones

Can you tell me how to alter the split & place once you have done it? I have used split and place, and opted to split the height equally across the sheets, but then changed my mind... Can't edit this afterwards. In fact, even if I remove the schedule from the sheets, I can't Split and Place the same schedule a second time. Many thanks.

Hi, @paulwoddy ,

I was able to restore the schedules by dragging the second half of the schedule back to the first sheet in the Project Browser, and then dragging the second half of the schedule over top of the first half of the schedule. Does that make sense? I will try to do a Screencast and share it (after I install Screencast!).

Thank you @kimberly_fuhrman-jones. The final piece of the puzzle. I had managed to work out most of the nuances of this feature, like adding an extra sheet to the mix and adjusting how much data is on each sheet, but I had not managed that undo bit. Have to say that it might well be worth adding something to the help file to that effect, before you get asked this question a lot!

@paulwoddy  You're welcome! Thank you for that suggestion. I will certainly pass along the feedback!
