Snap to and Dimension Coordination Models

Snap to and Dimension Coordination Models

Now that we finally have the ability to link Navisworks files into Revit, we need to be able to use them effectively. Please add the ability to snap to elements in coordination models, and to create dimensions to those elements (including centerlines). Thanks!

Absolutely! Importing nwc files is a huge, much-needed improvement - but it only does a very limited amount of good if we can't interact with the imported geometry in any meaningful way...

It's been so long since I've used coordination models that I had forgotten about this snafu. I think this is why we don't use coordination models anymore. We have been making Generic Families out of any AutoCAD dwgs we want in the model.

Is there a workaround for this?  Our project has gotten so huge that now we have to break up our generic family links into 5 parts, which destroys all of our dimension references.  A coordination model seems to be the best choice for a rapidly evolving project, but not being able to dimension to the coordination model makes it quite useless for making sheets.

...and include it to the export to dwg please. the way it is now is like a demo version - you see it but cannot do much with it...

Hello Autodesk forum admin/developer,

Please give an update on the prospective improvement of requested features related to Coordination Models. Lack of these (and resulting imposed manual labour) poses a deal breaking weakness in the cross platform collaboration and thus limits the motivation for using Revit in infrastructure projects and many other industries. Can you give an indication if this can be expected in the 2021 or 2022 release..?

Ideally these are to be implemented as a similar the "Control Element Selection" toggles as those already available in the lower right GUI within Revit such as "Select Links", "Select Pinned Elements" etc. These new features could be implemented as toggles for "Coordination Model Snapping" (allowing setting out dimensions and as modelling basis) and  "Coordination Model Element Selection".

Andreas Fangel

Coordination model is useless if you can't interact with it.

Hi all, any improvement on 2021, with Coordination models ?

Greetings

As far as I know, nothing has been done with the Coordination Model feature since it was introduced. And to add insult to injury, besides the fact that Autocad got it 2 versions ahead of Revit (back in 2016), I also just found out that snaps have worked with it in Autocad since day one. Is what we're asking for really so hard, especially if it's already been done in Autocad?

Its unfortunate that 4 years later this issue remains. I can only assume it's much harder to implement than it seems.

Yes you are right.. As I mentioned in my earlier post that Snapping tools/options must be introduced in Revit for Coordination Model (Specially appending .nwd file) as coordination model need interactive in many cases.

@Anonymous Fangel NIRAS features is very simple, any Navisworks Model (.NWD) appended in Revit by insert as coordination model and the said model should be interactive in Revit like ability for snapping / measuring dimension of the coordination model. It is very essential for handling the coordination model otherwise is acted as dump model. Please develop this idea as it will help the end user. Hope you understand the matter. waiting for your positive reply.

It is ridiculous that AutoCAD, REVIT, and NAVIS STILL do not work together.... Please make this easier on us to even want to use these software's in a usable way.

Please do this!

We are pleased to say that this has been implemented in Revit 2024! Thank you for your contribution to improving Revit!

Any chance we can make snaps work also in dimensions, instead of only in measuring tool?
